Anybody Carry a Traditional On the Beach?

I usually pop my Ontario SP10 Marine Raider Bowie into my skunners when I go surfside.
Boy I tellya I get some envious looks.
Sorry.
Taylor Schrades make a semi modern looking Landshark? Which seems fitting.
You probably need to get some cozzies* with a built in key pocket.
*swimming costume.

I have never seen those wire folders before! A SAK was what I was thinking, but that knife is the clear winner!

I second a simple SAK but this was my beach carry last week. I guess four out of six of your requirements aren't to bad but I wouldn't know about availability over the pond.

Although I'm guessing GT posed this question in jest, I decided to do a short experiment and answer it anyways...

Barrett, I was actually deadly serious when I asked whether an Opinel floats. My searches online seemed to suggest that the knife will float, but one site claimed that "it floats, but not like a bobber", a claim I found mysterious! Thanks for doing the experiment , although I couldn't tell what the conclusion was! I can see that the knife is not floating on the surface, but I can't tell if it's lying on the bottom of the bowl or floating vertically (like a bobber) below the surface (unlike a bobber). I have a #7 on the kitchen counter at all times; I suppose I should just toss it in the dishwater next time I fill the sink with soapy water to wash pots/pans!

Haha, sorry about that. Having been there in person, I guess it seemed more obvious in the video than it is. :D

It 100% does not float. Sinks like a stone, locking ring first, straight to the bottom.

Rats! Another dream shattered! :( Fortunately, at my age I've had plenty of practice handling disappointment. ;)
Thanks for the clarification, Barrett.:cool:

My last beach vacation, I took along a Vic Recruit and Bantam. I mostly carried the Bantam in my swim trunks and the Recruit the rest of the time.

Perhaps the folks who tested it out and said that an Opinel would float were conducting their test in the Dead Sea? :D

I doubt it would make much difference, but the smaller ones may have a different wood to metal ratio.

"And what else floats in water?"
"Churches!"
"Cherries!"
"Very small rocks!"

Sizes No. 5 and under should certainly weigh less proportionally since they don't have the locking ring, but I'd still be surprised if they float.

If you wanted a floating knife, this might be the only way to go.

That, or something with a lanyard hole so you could attach one of these. :D

I wouldn't suggest an opinel. The handles will swell making opening a real pain. Even washing mine up will sometimes do it even with immediate drying and it's had the heat/vaseline treatment.

That is, bar none, the best key float I have ever seen.

Barrett & TH, you had me chortling during breakfast this morning! :D:D The Dead Sea and Monty Python references are very amusing! I had to go watch the Holy Grail excerpt for old times' sake:
