If so, what kind and how do you store them? Recently, I found a product called Goody's that I've grown sorta fond of.

Any of you guys try it? I got a TON of it from work for free and tried it out. It's basically acetaminophen, aspirin, and caffeine in 325, 500, and 65 mg doses, respectively, in an orange-flavored powder. You either take it straight (if you can stand it) or mix it with a liquid and drink (actually not bad this way). I'm not usually a fan of taking anything for headaches, aches, etc. but I always carry at least something that will reduce a fever in my pack when I go camping. Well, the powder comes in these little, flat, tubes that you can stick anywhere in your gear and I even managed to squeeze a couple into my over-stuffed PSK. Since you don't need water to take it, those with pill-swallowing issues would be fine if there isn't clean water around in a pinch. With as much caffeine as a cup of coffee, It may not be the best thing to take for everything but I figure it would help a lot if I woke up and found myself sick in the middle of the woods. Also, the stuff works crazy fast.

I have one of those small pill holders, they have them at REI, they're tubes with a twist cap. I'm on methadone every 6 for chronic pain and methadone is NOT something you wanna forget to take.

Pills go where I go. Aspirin, Motrin, Flexeril and 2 other scripts I take daily. I think aspirin is most important for those of us getting on up in years yet still out trying to stay young. It could save your life should some cardiac event occur.

Honey if my blood sugar drops, Tums for heartburn if the pepper and hot sauce I use too much of gets out of hand. :)

Painkillers I avoid. If it hurts, I need to know why, not cover it up. But I do like to keep a small med kit handy otherwise.

Painkillers and Rx's in my kit: naproxin sodium, benadryl, prednisone, aspirin, norco, lidoderm patches, klonopin, erythromycin, epinephrine, immodium, caffeine, and possibly something else (time for bed, really). There are times for using some things and times when they expressly shouldn't be used. A time for pain, and a time when it isn't productive or necessary. I realize I have controversial items in my kit and I'm sure someone will comment on that. However, the RX's in my kit are serious business and I have never had to use any of them. I have run into some tough situations, but they were all manageable with OTC or nothing. I pray that continues to be the case. Despite all of the prescriptions in my kit, one of the more controversial is Caffeine. Your Goody's have caffeine and I would be very careful with that in a SHTF situation. Caffeine has diuretic properties and could cause other issues (DEHYDRATION) that compound whatever your current dilemma is. You might be better off carrying those items separate or in addition to your new found painkillers. Bottom line (in my opinion), aspirin is probably the best bet for a kit. It has multiple uses: Helps with blood thinning (heart attacks etc) and has pain relieving properties. If you want to add on to that, add another option that doesn't have caffeine built in. If you really love the Goody's, throw some in too. Last step, label and date everything.

I carry pain relievers I am in pain most of time, I don't need to know why, I already know. any old dings and arthritis.

Excellent advice!

Me? Screwtop, waterproof bottle for Oxycodone because of my affection for kidney stones . Also aspirin, because I'm old and I just may have a heart, after all. :D

Naproxen Sodium for pain is always with me and I'm a Diabetic so the Glucose (tablets & gell) are also with me at all times.

Remember to keep at least the label from your prescription with the pain meds or you could get busted for posession of narcotics.

I keep pain killers, something for heartburn and diarrhea, in my pack always.

Years ago I was on a two day float trip with a friend. For some reason, the first evening he took a migraine headache. He could not complete the trip the following day because of the portages since he could barely sit up and walk. I had to hike overland back to the truck and luckily I found a place where I could travel a short distance across a field to the road. After I found the way we got him to the road and I went back for the canoe and gear.

Aspirin, but I should add an anti inflammatory, my wife is always trying to get me to take them for little aches and pains but aspirin seem to work for me.

aspirin is an anti-inflammatory, anti-fever, pain killer.

Aleve (Naproxin Sodium) works the best of any OTC med for pain and inflamation for me. I also carry Tylenol PM (because it is the same medication (diphenhydramine) as Benadryl, plus 500mg of Tylenol (I figure is I need an antihistamine, I probably want a Tylenol, too), plus it's less than half the price of Benadryl. I also carry a bottle of Vicodin (by Rx, I carry the Rx bottle with me), for use as needed. Plus other assorted meds.

I note that many people use Aspirin.
I rather use Paracetamol: it is a lot like aspirin (very common, analgesic and fever reducer) plus it does not fludify blood like Aspirin does, which in an outdoor context is generally more a problem than a useful feature.

or am I missing something?

I had an enormous amount of fun when I was young, doing things that resulted in all kinds of breaks, sprains, and other assorted painful things. I was young, and I loved it.

Now I'm old, and all of those things that were fun at the time are coming back to haunt me. Not so much fun, anymore — some days I can barely walk, but, ah, the memories.

So now I carry Tylenol, aspirin, nitroglycerin and albuterol all the time. If I'm going out for an over nighter, I carry more. I don't like using pain medications, but I like pain even less. Hey, pain hurts! I like being able to walk, so I do pop a pill.

Yup:

- Ibuprofen for all-around stuff (stiff muscles, headache, sunburn)

- a couple of migraine pills

- loratadine (generic Claritin) for allergies

- Benadryl (more for bee sting or other acute problem that could lead to anaphylaxis or lots of swelling than for hay fever / environmental allergies)

- a couple of foil-wrapped imodium

- aspirin (more to give someone after a suspected stroke or heart attack than for pain relief)

What gets used? Advil & occasional loratadine for me and the gf, imodium and Benadryl once in a while for the dog.

Fits in a tiny baggie or a mini-Altoids tin. If they start looking battered or old, I toss the lot and reload. Cheap, easy, and handy. I've got a similar mix at work, in both cars, and in a couple of bags that get regular use.
