Anybody draw a good hunt tag?

Smithhammer...that is a nice bow setup you got and getting birds with it....wow...honestly never seen that done. It's really cool to see the different methods and areas and game others hunt in different parts of the US.

Do any of you or has anyone gone after Grizzlys? Or even just have them around to have to worry about? On the east coast we don't got critters like that so I've always been curious as to hunting, hiking, just overall what it's like to have those guys around.

Thanks man. Yeah awhile to scout should pay off and with moose up there I'm a bit thrown never delt with them just know their mean when rut comes and im pretty sure I need a bigger rifle..lol.

I was fortunate enough to be with my Dad when he took a bull moose in Montana some years ago. I remember it kicked our butt getting it out, ha!

I got a late season bull moose draw. Archery season is open here now. After a long summer I'm looking forward to some hunting!

Congratulations on the moose tag!

Thanks. I've taken ruffies with my bow before, but this one is a fat blue grouse

Great pictures!

Finally getting to hit the woods a bit. Seeing some bear and took a few grouse, which is good because Smithhammer made me hungry for grouse, lol :)

Lots of black bear, but no grizzlies for me. I've cruised timber where there was grizzly sign around, and sometimes they would reach up and bite our timber boundary signs off the tree. I'm not sure why, the signs were yellow, so maybe just a curiosity thing. It was a little unnerving though when you knew they were that close. There was a guy that worked on another crew doing plot surveys who had lost one of his arms when he was younger. Plot teams worked in pairs, his co-worker recorded the findings as he identified every plant within the plot, didn't need two arms for plant identification. But one day while they were working they stumbled up on a sow grizzly with a cub and she bluff-charged them twice. The gal he was with got up a tree, but he had to stand there and watch her come. He said when she came the second time that it was really close and he thought 'this is it.' I really can't imagine going through that, but the dude was still working there after I left. The gal, though, she was long gone, not that I blame her :D

Wow! I've had plenty of black bear encounters and never had a issue. But man I really would be on my toes if I knew grizz were around and even then I'd still have the willies...lol. They are the only critters on this continent that make me worry and I'm no where near them..ha. Think it was due to stories I'd hear on hunting trips with my grandpa and his friends when I was a kid?

I found fresh grizz sign at one of the elk wallows behind our house last week - a track as wide as my head and a turd about the size of an apple pie.

Definitely makes you stop and think, particularly when you're bowhunting, and moving quietly, hunting the wind, etc. and basically doing everything the opposite of what is recommended in grizz country...

I've never seen a moose except on tv. I don't know if I'll ever put in for a tag on 1, but man I'd love to see someone take 1. Congrats on the moose tag Bruce and a bull to my understanding those are a prize?.

I've never shot a "prized" trophy bull, but have shot some smaller "prized" table fare bulls!

The last time I had a draw was 2011:

You can call me a wimp, but when I'm bow hunting I generally have a can of bear spray on my belt!

I was refering to just a bull moose tag being a prize. That's a great pic I'd love to be on a hunt and see someone take one! Congrats on that! I've been told they have been some projects to establish elk herds here and NC but I'm not 100% on that. You guys got your hands full out there with grizz! 1 day I'd like to put in for a tag on kodiak and go after a bear. But I'm perfectly okay with not having those guys here...ha.

The tags are a prize too lazy otter! I seem to be luck enough to get drawn about every 5 years though.

After the shooting the work starts!

I wouldn't have a clue where to start with a moose..lol. I bet it is a lot of work! Over the past year or so I've become a lot more interested in hunting and fishing other parts of North American and Canada but I haven't yet but you guys sure are making me jealous!

Now I'm sure there is no 1 caliber rifle or maybe there is? But what are y'all using for moose, elk, grizz,sheep/ram..I know that y'all got bigger game and can take it at greater distances than we or atleast I have here?

I used a 30-06 for years. Lately I have been using a 280 Ackley. For moose I like premium bullets like Barnes X, Partitions, or Accubonds.

I use Barnes in my handguns..I can seen a 300wi mG in my future and making y'all take me hunting for some big game...lol.

A 300 WM will definitely take care of business!
I grew up back east, then moved west. You'll have to try some western hunting river otter...it's awesome!
