Ever since I traded my old Pardue liner lock in for a replacement (I broke the Pardue) Mini-Griptillian, I have been freakishly obsessed with the Axis lock folders!

I don't know what it is, but I don't even want to look at another lock design now that I own and use (daily carry) a Mini-Grip.

I just picked up my 2nd Axis lock (a new 710 from a forum member) and I can't put the stupid thing down!

Am I a SICK FREAK?!?

Oh, and this is next. :D

I hear ya. I first looked at the Grip because it was left hand friendly, which is a little important for a lefty like myself, and fell in love with not just the knife itself but the lock.

I know what you mean, At first I didnt like it, I didnt trust it. But not that i know how to use it Love it. got the regular griptilian. I love it, people give me a hard time about the price. but i dont care its already proved it self 2 times.

Sulaco, at this point I think I'm an Axis freak for life.:) I regularly EDC 4 limited editions, and own about a half dozen more. I also own a compression lock, a ball lock, and a couple Arc-locks - but right now there's nothing like an Axis.

Welcome to the club.

I think at first a lot of people are turned off by the AXIS lock. Maybe even after using one for a week. Your finger gets sore from playing with the lock a lot, etc.

However, if you stick with it, and toughen up your thumb so it can work the lock pain free, and you get used to working the lock, you quickly realize how great the AXIS lock is. :)

Yep, it's my favorite lock.

So acclimated to using them that when I carry a knife with another type of lock, I fumble a bit.

It has its disadvantages, but ease of use is a major strong point.

To me, the Axis lock is a perfect example of function without passion. And that isn't a totally bad thing.

The frame lock is elegant simplicity. It gives me goosebumps and evokes images of a race car with the engine as a stressed member of the frame. Or Buell motorcycles where the swingarm is the oil tank.

The Axis lock opens and closes so easy that it makes me laugh. I suck at flicking knives open (both with a flick of the wrist, or with a thumb-flick). But the Axis lock makes it easy. I can pull the Axis bar down and flick it open with my wrist, or I can just flick it open with my thumb since there is so little resistance even with the Axis bar in the neutral position.

The problem is that it isn't sexy to me. It doesn't look elegant, and to operate it is just "easy", not inspiring.

A Ferrari F40 isn't easy to drive (so I hear), but it sure is emotional. The challenge is part of the mystique. It gives it character.

Sorry to sound like I am bashing the Axis lock in an Axis lock appreciation thread. I really do love the Axis lock. In fact, the Axis lock and the frame lock are my favorite two locks, just for different reasons.

The Axis lock is very easy to use and is perhaps the best lock in objective categories. But the frame lock is what I lust after.

i've never owned one. nothing against BM, its just that i seem to buy spydies a lot.

maybe someday i will try BM:)

I knew I wasn't the only one! :D

And to those who either like it less or haven't tried it, don't worry, you'll come around in time! ;)

I am a Benchmade and Spyderco guy and I have to say that my Benchmades are a lot easier to close one-handed, thanks to the Axis lock.

The Axis is the best lock I've ever used or seen.

However, I dont like Benchmade's knife designs all that much, I prefer Spyderco's handles and blades. I wish Spyderco would license the Axis lock and make (for example) an Axis Native or an Axis Lil' Temperance. I'd plunk down.

I recently acquired my first Axis locked Benchmade; a Ritter Mini-grip. I LOVE the axis lock. I also have a Spyderco, with the ball bearing lock, which I think is smoother, but I digressed. My favorite are framelocks!

Just call me a Freakazoid! I have carried nothing but the axis-lock 610 Rukus for the past month. I'm now looking at some of the other axis lock knives from Benchmade, specifically the 806 before they all get gone.

You and me both. Can you say, Axis Lum Chinese? Axis Spyker? :)

I'm a lefty and I'm a Axisaholic. :D
The only down side for me was when they first came out my left hand didn't know how to make it work but after some practice and a few band-aids it was love.

That 610 looks like it wants to take some pocket time from my 710HSR.

My current EDC (and only Benchmade) is a 710, and I really like the Axis lock. The lockback is still my favorite, and I feel that it's a bit more secure even though I've never had a hint of failure with the 710.

Everyone praises the Axis, and it's a wonderful lock, but what really impresses me the most about the 710 is the combination of classic lines with modern materials. It's a modern tactical that doesn't look at all out of place next to my Buck 110s.

After buying 2 Benchmades last year (Mini Skirmish and Apparition) and some Spydies, I thought that I would never buy another Benchmade. Spydies seemed much more functional (good handles, no nonsense design).

Then I bought a discontinued Benchmade 721 with an Axis lock. Now all my Spydies stay in their boxes... the Axis lock is awesome.

Does anyone know when the Grips in 154cm will be available... I think I need another Axis...

Hello, My name is Mike and I'm a Gripaholic.

Since my first Grip, a mini, I've barely looked at other knives. I've got two of the Cabelas large Grips, two of the Cabelas MiniGrips, a Blue handled MiniGrip, and a BM axis lock that looks like a dagger, model 530 I think. I'm going to buy a few more so's I'll have one in each car and other places I need them. Only improvement I can think of would be a grippier handle material.

BTW, not to thread hijack, but does anybody except collectors use the little bag that comes with BM's? I'd rather have an extra low profile clip in the box instead. Maybe some guys would even like to have a clip on both sides of the knife. YMMV.

U

Yea, now I know that I not alone! I have been buying Custom folders for a while, but then I saw the 710 and had to have one. Well that was in December and I now have 4 axis locks with three more on order (Ritter M2s). I have only had one knife fail (try to close on my hand) on me (a custom Lockback, nice to look at but poor execution), but I love the Axis lock. Now if I could only get one with Ivory slabs....... Steven
