I have always had this habit; I eat apple cores. I jettison the stem, the dirty navel . . .and . . . the seeds ? What about the seeds. You know they have arsenic in them right ? OH yes. Must be bad for you right ? Well some serious physical culturists think the apple seeds have just enough arsenic to lend a hand in killing cancer cells but not enough to do any harm. The body can build up a tolerance to arsenic and not freak out (die). Youve read your Dorothy L. Sayers, right ? Of course you have . . . anyway . . . I was working over my morning apple and I had two epiphanies :
1. See my post in What Knife Would You Be ?
a: this kitchen knife
2. I could post this thread and see just how many weirdOs we have here.
PS: forty years and more of eating apple seeds; there seems . . . at least . . . to be no ill effects.
Slice around the core to remove most of the fruit.
Cut off the navel end; cut in half; remove dirty/crusty navel
Slice stem end off and stem pops out rinse if needed and eat end (not stem).
Pop the remaining middle core into mouth and chew; tastes vaguely like almonds . . . just before the convulsions and hallucinations set in.
Kidding . . . kidding
