I usually get one good sickness a year and it looks like my number was up. I started gettin that tight chest feeling and itchy throat Saturday. Today (Sunday) I woke up with some good coughing and a fever. Felt like crap for most of the day. Then, I managed to drag myself out to the drug store to get some Alka Seltzer flu and cough drops. That, along with an overdose of vitamin C seems to be helping a lot, but I'm expecting so see the full blown monster by tomorrow.

Anybody else dealing with the demon? Everthing else I can deal with, but the body ache is what gets me, that and the headaches.

What is everyone else's routine for dealing with this crap. Mine is just to stay pumped full of the above named remedies until the evil has past. I also suck down a lot of hot tea and honey.

nope. I eat on average 6 - 10 cloves of garlic a day and wash my hands with soap a lot. Haven't been sick in years

It got me a week ago!

I was sick for a few days and then got a bit better but i still have a cough a week later. :(

As for remedies try Cepacol throat lozenges, they numb your throat and mouth and help with the sore throat along with some antibacterial stuff to kill some bacteria the cause your sore throat. Surprisingly Ricola helps with the coughing quite a bit, give it a try, its supposed to be "herbal".

As for body aches i can't really help you out there, maybe tylenol? I'm not sure, tylenol helps with the fever though.

When your sleeping try the Breath Right Nasal Strips, they really do help with the stuffy nose and so do humidifiers.

Hope this helps!

Get better soon! :)

I was sick last week. Still got an annoying cough. But I was always a sickly child.

Wow! I've heard garlic is good for you, but 6-10 cloves seems like a lot. I woud guess you have VERY low blood pressure, since one clove a day seemed to drop mine significantly. I might try upping the garlic dosage, since I seem to always have significant cold symptoms, though never sure whether it's a cold or allergies. William

Lots of vitamin C along with other natural vitamin's plus a good dose of HOT sauce, like bushman5 I haven't been sick in years.

I have a jacked up immune system and I've been healthy so far. With all the weird stuff going around I've been very careful to keep my hands clean...and to keep all the surfaces I touch regularly clean...like my keyboards. I also take moderate doses of vitamins and minerals. The body can only absorb so much of that stuff at one time, and taking to much of one thing may inhibit the body's ability to absorb other vitamins and minerals.

I was travelling in Asia a couple weeks ago and saw something funny. Was on the subway with my wife and this older gentleman coughs while covering his mouth. The 4 people sitting close by pull surgical facemasks out of their bags, put them on and move to a different part of the train. The man coughing put on a facemask, and about 10 others strap on masks and start looking at him almost as if they are diagnosiing him. My wife who is also Taiwanese explained that it was pretty common in the culture to wear a facemask if you are sick or just nervous about getting yourself or your children sick, so everyone is extremely cautious and the culture developed as such that is is normal behavior. We laughed because here in NY if someone on the subway was wearing a facemask most people would assume the worst case that is was some sort of board of health ordered requirement lol....so there would be no one sitting next to them to begin with. It was a relief to see a place where people cared about getting others sick

That said...despite all the face masks I caught a cold on the flight back that lasted a few days.

I work in a hospital. I am a respiratory therapist and I am in the middle of this mess all day. Lots of people getting sick and being placed in isolatioin. Wear a gown, mask and gloves alot. Twelve hour shifts with no breaks or lunch. Page, page, page. I wonder how far I walk. Do that 2 or 3 days in a row will all the stress we go through and you are beat down. Took the two flu shots. Just try and remember not to touch your eyes, mouth, or even your face area without washng your hands first. Hard to do till it becomes habit. The garlic is a good idea. Keep the immune system strong however you can.

Had a pretty bad flu/cold last Monday. Was down with fever, body aches, cough, the works. Feeling good now, a little bit of a cough hanging on but that will go away soon.

Other than my recent case of Red Kidney Bean Poisoning (which was my own damn fault :o) I've managed to fight off every major cold by drinking tons of water, kombucha, and EmergenC packets to get a ton of vitamin C in my system. :)

Trying my best to wash my hands and avoid large crowds till I get the H1N1 vaccine which may take a while.

Already got the flu shot.

Vaccinations, friends! Vaccinations! Get all the ones you can, as early as you can. Been a bit harder to do this year, I know. But H1N1 should be available by the middle of next month, some places already have the live vaccine available.

And stay the hell away from others until you're afebrile for > 24 hours!

I thought I had the flu, it was a bad sinus infection. The antibiotic the doc put me on has made me feel ten times worse. I was taking zinc, vitamin c and vitamin d. Dropped the zinc while on the antibiotic, and taking aspirin.

I once had the flu at work, and threw up all over the inside of the ambulance while I was driving...:barf: I thought I could make it through the shift...almost did....Then I worked a code at 3am, and when we were transporting the body after we called it, I lost it. Took 3 damn hours to clean the vomit off the windsheild and gauge cluster and door panel. :grumpy:

Havent been sick since, and this was 4 years ago....

As far as flu shots go....never had one. They gave H1N1 last week at work, and half the guys refused it...including me.

Spooky,

You guys must have more than us. Right now they are not issuing shots to anybody but the high risk groups here.

My wife was saying maybe even JAN for the general public.
