Anybody else like the Buck 450?

Hey Guys , When Ichecked The Catalog For A Thumbstud On A Plain Edge For Someone I Could Only Check Back To 2004. Confederate Caught My Mistake And It Made Me Wonder Just How Old The 450 In Any Form Is. I Have No Idea.

Hi guys. New to the forum. I found this thread when I was googling my 450 and with one of the last posts being about how old they might be I thought I'd share even if nobody checks the thread anymore. Unless I'm mistaken, according to the mark on mine and this site, Buck Knives Age , mine was made in 1997 so they go back to at least the late '90s. Great little knife.

Welcome, for future reference, old threads like this one are better left dead and start a new one.

IDK. It’s a fine line. If it’s a pertinent response thread necromancy is ok. M Maitland directly answered the previous post. In general it is strongly discouraged.

Welcome to the forum M Maitland your knife is quite a bit earlier than they were thinking.

Thanks. And I don't have plans to dig through old posts. This just happened to be the post thread that brought me to the forums and I didn't know there was anything against posting on it. I figured it was old and if it got no responses that was fine, but I had the info so why not share it. Better late than never.

There is not a rule against posting to old threads, like Ed said yours was a pertinent response.
I looked up the 450 series on the BCCI site and it seems to have been introduced in 1995. Didn't look to see when it was discontinued.
Since this thread lacks pictures, here's mine(only one) from a special edition in 1996...

Wow, that guy look like it's in perfect shape. Very nice.

The 450 Protege was last in the 2008 catalog. Don't forget about the short lived 455 Mini-Protege, 1998 thru 2002.
Blade Forum "recomendation" for thread necromancy is 6 months.

The rubber gets pretty tacky. Is there anything that removes that?

I’ve buried tacky rubber items in speedy dry (cat litter) for a couple weeks. It seems to draw the excess oil out of the rubber and make it less tacky. Either that or the dust sticks to the handle making it less tacky. Not really sure which. It’s worth a try.
Talcum powder will help too.

It makes a great blade swap to a 112..But I really like the handle! I found one with a Ion Fusion (gold) with serrations that I was going to do just that but Kathy's Dad seen it and wanted it..I just couldn't say no.
