I don't know if it's allowed in the US (or only in TV series), but that would be illegal as well in Germany. Either one is forced by law to give DNA sample or he is allowed to refuse, in which case there is no "working around" allowed. Consider he is a minor, he must be pretty heavily protected.but if compelling the boy to give a DNA sample in order to "assist" his memory is illegal, then I agree with you that it wouldn't be too hard for someone to procure a discarded drinking glass, dirty fork, or other common personal item and get the DNA that way. And of course all of his so-called survival gear is covered with DNA as well. I think nowadays it is pretty difficult not to give a DNA sample to someone who has a little imagination and/or training.
I know I'm probably going to be flamed and get called an idiot for this post...but I'm going to post it anyway.
With regards to the DNA sample, what does this do? I mean, at a crime if you link the DNA of the criminal to something at the crime scene, you have a match. But it's not like there is a DNA database saying who people are. If I had no family and no name and they took my DNA, what would they compare it against? How would that help them find any information about me?
Note, I'm not making this post to say DNA does nothing here, more because it seems I'm missing something here and just looking for information on exactly what that is![]()
