anybody else...

I'm at a content stage and have been for a while. I was collecting Shatt & Morgan Queens but I'm particular about keeping my knives clean so I don't see buying any more Queens(multiblade slippies keep me busy!:o). I'm decideing what to collect in modern cutlery and which ever Santa wife gets me for Christmas will determine that. It is between the Kershaw Leek and the Shallot. I had decided it had to be something well made for a reasonable cost and easy to maintain.

Hello Peter. slippies were my first love and even though one hand knives lured me a way I still have a love for the beautiful slippies. I have a modern slippie UK Pen knife by Spyderco on it's way to me. When my knife collection get too large to care for it will be time to sell some. I may be very close to that now. Kindest regards.

I bought about six knives for Xmas gifts. Get them in my hands and mess around with them and then wrap them up and send them off to guys I grew up with. Sent one to my high school math teacher. Instead of picking out what you want; try and pick out what you think someone else would think was cool. Fun.

I am nowhere near done accumulating knives. I have more than probably any human could possibly need in two lifetimes even now, at least in folders and slipjoints, but still love to have new ones.

If anything, cost relative to quality has slowed down my buying lately. Most of the decent quality stuff I want I already have and the really nice stuff I would like to have is just too high dollar for me at this time. So, I have basically cut down my buying some and have also set some limits on what I will buy brand and steel-wise. I try to stick to carbon steel US and German made slipjoints, Spydercos, Benchmades, Victorinox, and some fixed blades in carbon steel with an occasional excursion into other brands. I also go for some vintage carbon steel slipjoints when I find them at decent prices.

I still would like to have a Strider SMF, an HI khukri or two, and some GEC slipjoints but I think that will be a ways off and I can think of better things to spend money on right now (like guns).

I do like quality slipjoints, and continue to buy them, admire them & appreciate having them.

I like having a quality knife in my pocket and would feel strange not having one.

But I've sold almost all of my production "tactical" knives, and have little or no interest in buying any more of them. I am keeping the few that I really like.

Fact is, at this point I've bought/owned/sold a heck of a lot of knives. And also, here in the Northeast, non-knife people do look at you kind of funny when you pull out even something like a Delica. It wasn't always that way. It's just getting to be too much of a potential hassle that's not worth it, at least for me.

Well I have been doing the knife thing on and off for many many years. I have and always will have a passion for "Edged Tools". Some times there is nothing on the market that excites me so I slow down a bit... I have never looked for the "ONE" knife to end all others... I also do not believe it exist... The "ONE" in your pocket or the next "ONE" you want to purchase/trade/or make maybe? I have said before I have sort of come full circle in my collecting where as I get more joy out of an old functional Slipjoint or a beat up "Sodbuster" than any of my customs or high end production knives. I don't have a need for the "Tacticool" knives or the latest "Blackout" auto opener. Which is not to say I don't like them, I just have been there done that and have the pictures to show it. I really like the simpler things these days and my little Buck 303 or my Case xx CV Sodbuster are wonderful. If I'm feeling racey I'll grab one of my S&M's or a GEC Barlow. I still love to shop around for knives and see what the industry is offering and I still enjoy the Forums and it's People and all the different aspects of knife collectors World Wide.. I will buy more knives, though I have slowed down quit a bit...
Happy Holidays!!!! ~baba~

If you get to a level where you are really contented with the knives you've bought and can use them, then that is in itself a tremendous achievement.

I can understand ceasing the mania for buying knives,it can be foolish or ridiculous. What's ridiculous is not the knives but the compulsive urge to buy:eek:

But let's face it, the thrill of owning a new type of knife and yet suspecting that there MAY BE other and more definitive knives still out there still undiscovered is a hell of a buzz:D

No, I am not done buying them. Yes, I have stopped for a while because lack of money. I will start again when the RC-5 SERE comes out, most likely. Of course, I will have to have the money for it.

I will never stop buying knives which appeal to me.
I don't care that there's no "The One" knife...I discovered THAT 15 knives ago!
I will not buy a knife just for the heck of it, but if a knife REALLY appeals to me, I'll get it eventually.
The Spyderco Phoenix looks mighty nice to me right about now...
But yes, I've slowed down THIS month buying knives, as I'll chose rent and food over knives any day!:p

When I was racing I didnt buy knives much and when I was into my guns in a big way I didnt buy many knives, new girl friend, new job, etc.... My point is if it is a passion you will return to it.

My love for knives has not been curbed by the economic downturn that the United States (and indeed the whole world) has experienced.

I've always judiciously spent my money on knives that are exactly what I want, knives that I can use and give me pure enjoyment. I am only a high school student; I am gainfully employed, I don't have to worry about my retirement, and, currently, have no stake in the stock market. I buy the things I can afford, and I enjoy them.

I like to think that as of right now, my situation allows me to buy knives as long as I'm financially responsible in the other areas of my life. I don't have to pay for housing, and I usually don't have to buy foodstuffs (unless I decide to take my girlfriend out, but you know how that is---ah, chivalry is not dead!). I have to pay for insurance for my truck, gas, and only a small handful of other luxuries I indulge myself in. This allows me to indulge in the biggest and my most-favored luxury---cutlery.

As to your post, Mr. Lowry---that was perhaps the best and most meaningful thing I've read in my time here on BladeForums. You give a very insightful message to young people such as myself.

God bless, and good luck.

My motivation to buy knives has lowered over the last couple of months. I did recently buy a Delica and there are a few that I'd love to get my hands on, but my interest in buying a whole lot has decreased. I still appreciate knives and new innovations within the industry. I think the lack of motivation has really been a result of my last couple of purchases which were grails for me. I'm happy with what I have right now.

Nope, not yet....
BUT, I have to....... I have gone totally overboard this past year......
I think I need professional help..........

;)

I have always loved to give knives as much or more than buying them for myself . I have (maybe to the end of me )introduced my girl to knife collecting .If I find I have no funds for new knives and I feel the urge I trade .If I even think about how limited the uses for a knife are or what would be the big deal if I didn`t carry one today; I go get out my first spyderco that my mother got me for my 12 birthday and my busse she only paid $150.00 for when I was 15 and I remember my love of everything sharp how pretty they are when you really look at them. Take care and don`t forget your knife.

I think I'm nearing the end. I've used a lot of different knives by now, and am starting to think I have too many (If I buy any more folders I won't be able to close my knife box).

I've already decided on the Spyderco ZDP-189 Caly 3 my permanent secondary EDC, and it's only a matter of time till Sal upgrades the Military and I make that my one and only Primary EDC.
But variety will always be the spice of life. If I ever go a whole year without buying a new knife I'll be very surprised.

I just limit myself to two or three a year. One for xmas, one for my birthday and then i will buy one for myself if it is a must have. The knifes go into my rotation and when a new one comes it replaces whichever knife that usually stays home after a while(that is unless it is not a ltd or a meaning full blade). The knife that i take out of rotation usually gets passed along to a friend, family member or traded for another knife.
