I am almost out of belts for my 4x 36" grinder and looking for suggestions on what types I should get with my next purchase (should not afford it but the wife told me I need something to keep my sanity while finishing school). I believe I bought from Supergrit, and I had issues with the splicing past 220 grit leaving waves in the steel. I got 2- 600 grit cork belts and converted one to green strop material, it seems to work well without splice and it has lasted a long time.
What would any of you suggest for belt types? Should I get cork and add cutting compound to make them more aggressive (if so could you give ideas on what/where to get compounds)? Just get an assortment and finish by hand more (I do that now but don't have excessive amounts of time- school and a 3 year old and 6 month old)?
I should not have to have another purchase of these belts- hopefully
by the time I need more I'll have a career going and be able to afford a nice 2x 72, just not near feasible now.
Thanks for any advice if you have some.
