Anybody got 13 grand laying around?

This knife is pretty no doubt, but I couldn't care less about pure art.

If I was going to buy a knife at that price, 90% of that better be due to impossibly advanced materials and functions that took research to develop. Must have a hypersteel (or super advanced ceramic) that can withstand anything, frictionless pivot, handle with perfect ergos, and must come with an automated sharpener that can give it an edge one atom thick with a microbevel.

Forget art, engineered functionality is true beauty. But both would be the best.

This is art, it's silly to try to judge it based on usability. If it's not your thing then it's not your thing.

if i were like bezos worth 80 billion something....
that would be like me and my worth buying a $25 kershaw import. all relative.

I was curious if this was true, so I actually did the math. The average American age 35-44 has a net worth of ~$200k (rounding up.) Jeff Bezos is worth 79.3 billion.

This knife to Jeff Bezos would be the equivalent of three cents to the average American age 35-44. $25 to the aforementioned average American would be $9,912,500 to Bezos.

I don t know if there are "plenty". That seemed like a lot of money to me until I saw the William Henry model included later in the thread priced at 45 k.
Must be nice to have inherited money.

Ther are plenty. Im not going to name any names because their income and spending is not my business and i dont want to put a spot light on them. But there are quite a few guys hear who can buy a $10,000 knife the way i buy a $100 knife. Im certainly not one of them.

yeah wasnt meant to be literal translation. i almost put that into the post that it was an exaggeration to make a point but figured no one would be that bored with that much time to waste.....i was wrong.:) go figure

Nah, it was obvious you weren't being literal, I didn't mean that as a dig at you in any way. I was just curious what the literal equivalent was, and figured I might as well share it.

If I had that kind of disposable cash, I could see owning the one the OP listed. It's truly a work of art, a one of a kind. The skills and jewels used in the handle alone are with the cost of admission.
:) It would really complement your "Chaos" suit , also ! ;)

I had to read that description also. My best guess is it's a knife version of a Faberge Egg. Just something that's pretty and meant only to look at. The egg has absolutely no use whatsoever, at least the knife can clean a fish.

Excellent. Love the math.
I wonder if the average 40 year old American is actually worth 200,000. So would the average 40 year old married couple be worth 400,000? Or just the average 40 year old married couple on this forum? If so, I m impressed.

i saw a guy drop 23,000 Euros in CASH, which at the time was close to $30,000, on an ornately carved damascus hand axe by Swedish smith Roger Bergh at the Belgium Knife Society show back in like 2009. nothing surprises these days.

Looks like something you'd see at the local flea market.
If I won a knife like this in a raffle or something I waste no time trading it straight up for a Victorinox without even considering how much I could sell it for just to get it away from me.

Needs larger diamonds.

For $13,000, I'd want a meteorite or diamond blade, something exotic and incredibly durable. I have rings if I want bling.

But if I had that stack, I'd put it as a down payment on a 1979 Porsche 930.

Sometimes you can have too much bling. I don't see how anyone would carry these.

I did enjoy looking at the William Henry Independence once.

Huh. This means I have two years to be worth $200 grand.

Let's see...

I've got no job
On disability
$27k as my life savings, wrapped up in mutual funds.

I don't see how this adds up to even close to being "worth" $200k. It's gonna take selling a lot of blood and semen to get there. Scratch that second part. I'm infertile.

The average American is very poor relative to most developed countries in terms of wealth. Living all my life in a 1% bubble where people talk about millions as freely as $100, it made me realize how spending tens of thousands on knives was a waste when the average American probably cannot even buy a car all cash. That's when I stopped collecting and decided $100 knives were the best for me.

Well, I am always open to donations should you feel the need...
