Smoky mountain knife works has them in stock so I was wondering if anyone had got one. If so I could use a review I want one but when moneys tight ya gotta be sure about what you order.

I called them to make sure cause they have them on the web site and the lady I talked to said they had them in stock. I just placed one on order and the checkout screen said in stock so we shall see.

Not sure I'd want one, based upon the picture I just saw on Knifecenter. The knife appears to have no real guard, and the sheath looks kind of crappy.

A lot of people like knives with little or no guard, though, so Kabar probably has a market for it.

I ordered one about a month ago from MovieSword. I got an e-mail just today, telling me to look for it in the next week. We'll see......

I was in the store Memorial day weekend, and they were on the shelves. I actually handled one.

I am a big fan of the plain old KaBar, and the newer Camp model with the rubber handle and the somewhat Bolo blade. I have to say that I like both of those better than the new bowie.

Many will like it, but it just did not do it for me. Of course, it appeared to be of the same quality as all the other KaBars.

I waited for them to get out to the dealers and then saw the kershaw outcast and thought it was a lot more worth the money although I have not got to use mine alot, I just cann't give up my marine radier bowie from ontario knife works it's my everday knife around our cattle ranch.

Finally!!!

I've had her for less than 24hrs now - came in the mail yesterday. I've got the 7.5" blade version and man, it's one heck of a knife - especially for the price!!!

The blade is about 2" wide and is more than 3/16 thick but has the distal taper & is very thinly ground making it almost neutrally balanced. I have no way of measuring the thickness of the edge but it is very thin & you can tell the knife is a 'slicer'.

The handle is kraton & is of the harder, more durable variety but with a nice texture and decent contouring. I particularly like the large "shelves" the handle creates on the sides of the knife @ the blade/guard juncture.

This is the 2nd Kabar knife I own - the other being one of their short USMC knives. Whereas the shorty's handle is too small for me, the handle on this knife (the Heavy Bowie) is just a little too large for me - it's a bit thicker than I would like. Those of you with slightly larger hands will love it though I am sure.

In summary, I REALLY like the knife. I love the shape & the blade geometry. I'm sure I'll love using it too - will do a little work around the yard with it this weekend methinks...

Hope those of you that have ordered one get yours soon - I'm sure you will like it!!!

TTFN,

James

I hope I get mine........someday!!!! Ordered in May, and waiting patiently.

Did the edge require any work out of the box?

Looking forward to your review, James!

The edge will shave easily out of the box - and like I said above, it is very thin which ought to be relatively easy to resharpen.

...So far all I've done with it was open a 25lb bag of dog food - I back slashed accross the top & sliced a clean 8 - 10" cut through the bag as intended. Verrry nice!

I didnt know they were so hard to get, I just started reading up on it, Is it a new item or something ??? The thing that appeals to me, Is the weight of it, That & the handle looks like something you can really hang onto, One guy said the scabbard lookes crappy, I'm seriously thnking of getting one, That, & a coldsteel Espada medium for my pocket, Anybody have one of those ????

Hello and Welcome to the forums. You dug up a thread which is 3 years old. The Ka-bar Heavy Bowie has been reviews quite a bit on this forum. I got one back in the spring of last year. It's a good knife and I rather like mine.

Heber

Hey thanks Heber, I'm new here so thanks for the info, I did order a Ka-Bar heavy (short version) & the coldsteel espada medium, Along with a CS 1860 heavy cavalry saber, & their 12 inch bowie machete, None of which has arrived, SAY HEBER, I'm no fan of synthetic sheaths, & have a mind to try my hand at making some for these bowies, & was thinking of making a flap holster that would fit a glock 22, OR a Beretta 9mm sized pistol, I've never done leathercrafting, But feel quite sure I can pull it off, Just cant find any cowhide, TALK TO ME ??????

Sure!
