Been trying to think up a present for my father and I remembered that he goes through a ridiculous amount of knives by trying to use them like an ax and crowbar to hack through bones and torque apart joints (his culinary theory is if it doesn't work you need to chop harder:rolleyes:). I've got an old lawn mower blade lying around so I'm thinking of forging that and it shouldn't be too difficult to make a rectangle, but I'm not too sure what grind I should put on it. Also would a lawn mower blade be good for this or should I go for something different?

There are plenty of routes you can go with this. I'd recommend just getting on like AlabamaDamascus.com and getting some high carbon steel on there. You go to knife making supplies then choose 5160, and you'll be able to pick between plenty of different thickness'. Hope that helps out!

Just so its stated in no uncertain terms; buy some brand new steel and save the lawnmower blades for the lawnmower
