I have been looking for a surface grinder for several months but not having much luck locally. All the great deals seem to be about 2000 miles away and the frieght costs are very high. The spindle bearings are likely bad in the cheaper ones and they are expensive to rebuild. Maybe I should buy the Harbor Frieght type.

I will keep my eyes open around here. I always check the local Craigs lists. Only about 60 gallons of gas to here and back.

Bruce, I can help on the freight cost, I get class 60 on all shipments and a 70% discount. I set up a move for Kerry Hampton to get his and Nick Wheeler to get grinder.

I found one in Seattle but it was pretty beat up and needed spindle bearings. Yes please keep your eyes open.

Bruce, there's one in the SeaTac area on CL for $600 right now :)

Hi Nick, I called the guy about that one. Its a Ried #2 but has a couple broken parts and bad spindle bearings if its the one I'm thinking about. He said he was going to raise the price until its sells. I did that with a knife one time and it worked.

I can vouch for the K O Lees mine was made in the mid 60's and still cuts great, the sweet thing was it came with a 6"x18" fine pole chuck

Bruce you should check out the Boyar Schultz in seattle. If I take the time to stone the chuck and do everything properly mine will cut to +- .0001 over a twelve inch by 1 1/2 bar. And if you anyone dosen't know what .0001 is the little scratches that you put on the chuck by sliding a peice of steel across the face to get it off is about .0002 or .0003

Thanks for all the help guys. I did find one here locally. Its a Cincinnati #2 cutter and tool grinder. Dang its big! I can surface up to 36" with this bad boy! Because its a tool grinder it will handle several other operations too. I can re-sharpen or re-shape end mills and other tools. I dont even know what all this machine will do but its going to fun finding out.

Bruce, What about the free gas? I have more now than ever since you gave me the bag of Walla Walla's. You will need to supply the container. Glad to see you located a grinder locally. Is it 3 phase?
