I'm definitely not a knife expert, that's why I'm here trying to learn a few good brands and insights into picking a knife. The knife must have a very reliable locking mechanism and it must be large enough to fit my hand (I'm 6'6" with very large hands). Any suggestions would be appreciated, the size is important to me. Thanks for your help in advance.

Benchmade 275 or 810. Both great knives with big handles. If you want a big handled knife with very strong lock and descent steel for cheap would get a Cold Steel Hold Out II or I. The II has a very big handle (and the 1 even bigger) which i really like about it.Can get a great grip. Love the Hold Out knives and can get them cheap nowadays.

That's easy. What you're looking for is a cold steel recon 1 xl. Huge handle - probably more than you need, and just about the strongest lock there is.

Spyderco Military or Benchmade Adamas manual folder 0275.
Both are great folders. You are not likely to regret it.

I might recommend the Military over the Para 2 based on what I imagine your size to be from your OP. The other suggestions are good, too. You could also look at a Spyderco Endura or Gayle Bradley, as well as an A G Russell Dozier tab lock folder. All of these will be within a few dollars of your stated price and they're all in the larger folder category.

Emerson has a few "super" and "uber" sized folders but they'll be a bit north of your $150 limit, even "pre-owned".

Zero Tolerance has several in their line that would fit the bill, and you cannot get a better knife for the money.

Thanks for all the suggestions so quickly! If I knew forums were so helpful i would've been using them a long time ago. I'm looking into these all these knives, having heard great things about spyderco, benchmade, and others mentioned, I can tell you all know your stuff, So many good options to pick from, it's going to be hard to make a decision, so the advice is much appreciated.

There have been some great suggestions so far, but how about the Benchmade Presidio 520. I polished the washers and oiled the pivot on mine, and it is now one of my favorites being extremely solid and smooth. The factory edge was just about perfect after a stropping, and the lock is second to none (pretty much).

Cold Steel Code 4 is amazing and it's way under your price limit. But let us know what you end up picking!

Hi, I'll give you the same advice I gave my son's, One of then is your size and went with B/1/505 after 2/11.
This is a Jeff Randall design about a third of the price you want to pay. Go to the Ontario site and look at both the Model One (this one) and the Model 1A or model 2 which is an assisted blade. A bunch of us on this site carry them as our EDC.

I just gave my large-handed 6'5" teammate a Benchmade 710. He loves it, and it isn't the pockethulk like the other knives mentioned. It's damn-near 9" of folder.

Hmm, the lighter, equal thickness spyderco military (which has a longer blade and handle) is a pocket hulk? That's interesting.

First rec Spyderco Military.
Second rec Benchmade 710.
I like the Military best.
