Anybody heard from Mohd?

...when we were having such a good time...I hope he knows he still belongs here, and we haven't given up on him. He took helluva flaming from some of the knotheads he ran across, when they read things into his posts that he never intended. I've always read his posts to be exactly what they were - nothing ulterior at all. He is one of us, and should be taken at face value. Things in his part of the world are far from peaceful. Stay safe, Mohd. Come back to the Cantina when you can.

Yeah, I was worried that those guys were too hard on him too. I hope he realizes that he belongs here also, and that we don't have any ill feelings towards him.

What about emailing him with a How's Things. Mohd helped me out with a lot of useful advice on getting Khukuris into Malaysia without hassle.

I hope it brings him back - maybe a few more might let him know the whole Cantina misses him. Maybe a whole helluva lot more might convince him.

Thanks, Wal. I am struggling with the Nepali shipping staff trying to get some khukuris shipped and am running out of time.

Miss Mohd's unique perspective on issues that encouraged thought on issues so that one would see concepts, ideas from other perspectives and so enriched this forum.

Mohd, whereever you are, miss you!!!

I miss Mohd also. His posts always made me feel better about things. Come back Mohd...

Andrew Limsk.

Mohd is a great guy and I miss him as well. I also worry about our Malayasian Brother's.

Redvenom, Andrew:
Just how are things In KL Malayasia?
The news services don't pay a lot of attention to that part of the world until and unless some kind of tragedy hits over there and then it's just in passing.
I saw something in another thread the other day that mentioned the breakdown of the amount of muslims versus other religions in Malayasia, but I've forgotten the ratio now.

Does Malayasia have that much differences in opinion over different religions?
What about the people in KL since large cities often have a different opinion viewpoint than the people in the countryside?

It's my opinion that most people, the majority in the country or city, in any country just want to be left alone to make a living the best way they can.
And without as much trouble as possible.

Uncle Bill, myself and others have talked a lot about how some craftsman are the same the world over.
They all have the same behavior under the same circumstances.:)
And I would bet that all Journalists, CPA's, Computer geeks, Janitors, and so on are the same way.
The common people of the world have much more in common than they do differences IMO.

Mohd is always good to hear from.

And he's welcome at my house on the same terms as Yvsa and Uncle Bill. ( Just give me 15 minutes warning to go thru the house like a tornado throwing stuff into closets and the spare bedroom. )

Yvsa,

Thanks for your interest in my little country. The religious breakdown is about 60% Muslim, 40% non-muslim. Most Malaysians are peaceable types that accept and understand each others differences of faith and customs. There are still traditional craftsmen here making beautiful handmade krises but i fear its a tradition that's dying out. Few modern youngsters want to spend the time and sweat to learn the art.

However, we are watching with alarm at the inroads some of the extreme factions of politics (notably the Islamic party PAS) have made in recent elections. While they are still much in the minority at the moment their controversial actions usually mean they are in the news often. They have been very active in pursuing their ideals through the university and school Islamic Societies. The crowd staging protests outside the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur where mostly PAS members. I understand the police was forced to use water cannons to disperse the crowd when their leaders began to whip the crowd into a religious frenzy and the situation started to get ugly.

While Malaysia is still very much a moderate, peaceful country at the moment, there is an ugly element that threatens everything our fathers and grandfathers have fought and died for in WWII against the Japanese and against the Communists rebels. While i love my country, i do not think I can simply accept life under a oppressive regime run by extremist clerics. I pray it will never come to that...

If I remeber right, Mohd has had periods of silence in the past. Maybe he just gets busy sometimes and does not have the time to post. I hope we have not lost him too. He brought a different perspective which we all need.

pakcik bill, mauirob, walosi, yvsa, harry, rusty, all of you friends!

sorry for being hiding in my own self with sorrow and sadness of everything that already happened and still going on happening!

all this while i thought i was aready dead in your hearts! once a while i visits the forums but i scared to make any post - my present as a muslim might hurt you all

just like ordinary peace loving muslim - a lot of things confuse me - you all are friends ... muslims are my faith brothers ... murder everywhere in US, palestine, afghanistan - where should i stand? some american called muslims as terrorist ... am i a terrorist? i don't even know how to pull a trigger!

last time i like to send post card to terry & sandy - now i dare not to send anything to US - if somehow the card carry anthrax ... i might be suspected as terrorist! remember there was a case of anthrax letter at reno - just imagine what will happened to me if that letter carry my name & address - so scarry - i can deny it but nobody will believe me ... not even Malaysian govt will hear my denial!

sometimes i just don't know how to think properly - i am not a lover of terrorism - at the same time i have to support innocent Afghani - at the same time i have to oppose US attack on Afghan - what should i do?

islam is not just a ritual religion - we muslim believe that islam is the only way of life - we have to think and act according to what stated in alqur_an - we have to sleep the muslim style of sleeping - we have to talk the muslim way - we have to eat only halal (ie. allowable) food the way muslim eat - we have to socialise as permitted by religion - our ladies have to wear scarf and hide their bodies - our men have to grow beard and wear topis - we have to implement our muslim law & ruling ... see a muslim way of thinking and action are different! so - is it wrong if we want to build our country to follow the way stated in alqur_an? is it wrong if we want to impose the islamic law on muslim without jeorpardizing the freedom of others from other religions?

see friends ... a lot of questions cramming my small head! i might have the answer but my answer will be according to islamic perspective - while you might have a totally different perspective! so ... now ... sincerely ... who am i in your eyes? am i your enemy? isn't it confusing?

may Allaah SWT give His guidance to live in this mundane world to all of us ...

 :barf:

Mohd, learn to think for yourself and stand on your own two feet.

It seems that every time you post one of these rants there is a latent political message you try to sell here.

I, for one, am finding it tiresome, especially camouflaged within this self pitying act of confusion and innocence.

(My apologies to Uncle Bill and the Cantina for my seeming invective but if this board is going to be open to statements such as the one posted above then I claim my right to respond.)

MOHD,
Mohd,
Question: Suppose I came into your country, secretly,
murder 5,000 plus of your people (not military)cause your people are not of my religion! People of my religion cheer & dance, meanwhile others , are poisioning your civilians! Now I hide ,in lets say a country that supports me,would you, while my agents are still poisioning your people try to have peace with me & forget ! Oh yeah, if you let me live I'm going to kill more of your people ,or would you come after me!This man killed time & time again, we let it go,not any more!I'm just sorry I'm not the one to kill him!To me, when 5,000 died the way they did, it became personal! I want him & HIS followers destroyed!

You can't lump all muslims into the same group as terrorists. Just as you cant lump all christians into the faith healing crowd.

Let's not generalize. :(

Mohd's last post didn't show him to be one dancing in the streets. So, let's not treat him as if he were on Bin Laden's bowling team.

Just a thought

Bruise,

Before you go reading into my post, I am not anti-Muslim nor am I accusing Mohd of anything but using this forum for his own political purposes. This is not the first time he's done so, and always with the same methodology. I'd suggest you do a little research on this and other forums. (The search feature will allow you to do this with a little effort on your part.)

I'm proud to say I stand up for the rights and liberties of all people regardless of color or creed or nationality. I don't paint any person or people with a broad brush. Those who know me, my record and my history will bear testament to that.

My reply is strictly to what Mohd has stated here on this occasion as well as previously.

Rant mode off.

Bru,
Questions were asked,I responded with A question in return! I make NO apologies for my statements! Blues has the same right! We just exercised them instead of keeping them to ourselves!

Mohd,

I started this thread, because I missed hearing from you. I think the fact that we speak different languages is making it hard to understand your point of view, and also making it hard for you to understand others.

First of all. Almost everyone here has told you that we (as americans) have no hatred for ANYONE just because they are Muslim! Let me rephrase that--we hate only terrorists! If the terrorist is christian--we hate him, if the terrorist is Jewish, we hate him also. It just so happens that Osama Bin Laden CLAIMS to be Muslim, but we don't hate him for that, we hate him because he kills innocent people.

No one here hates you, or anyone else because you are Muslim. No one hates you because you have different customs than we do. Yvsa is a Cherokee indian and has different customs than I do. Do I hate him? Hell no! He is like an elder brother/uncle to me!

My point is simple: we like you. WE like you because of your personality. We are not going to Stop liking you because you are Muslim. Did you stop liking us when Osama blew up the world trade center?--of course not!

I hope all of this makes sense to you. If you don't understand any of this, get someone who speaks really good english to translate it. We don't want you to misunderstand us, and we don't want to misunderstand you.

I don't agree with Blues, but he has a point. I don't think you need to be so defensive of Islam to us. We on this forum do not hate Muslims. Period.

anyway, I hope you don't stop posting because of Osama Bin Laden. If you do, he wins. He will have driven a wedge between friends, that happen to be muslim and non-muslim. and that would be a shame!

Your friend,

Rob
