I am taking Iaido clases (Aiki-Toho Iaido to be more precise), and I have just bought a practice Katana. I was able to find one longer than what is usual for Japanese practitioners at 29.2 inches, but the handle is a little too short for me. Does anybody know someone that could rehandle it?

Thanks,

Tbar

well, if you're serious about it, then send it to Fred Lohman.
If you dont want to spend much, then you could buy a new one.
Is it a cheapie or a nice sword?
If it just needs new silk, then Fred could do it for cheap. Youd only need to send him the handle...

Hi Danny,

I already spent enough for this one, I rather have it rehandled. It is a nice begginers blade I bought at bugei. Black saya and Musashi style tsuba. I love the lenght of the blade, but I have big hands and the tsuka feels a little short. My sensei handled it and she said the same, and she is shorter than me.
I had Fred Lohman's website bookmarked, he was my first option...a little expensive though.
Thanks,

Tbar

ninjas have this problem all the time. Seriously, a ninja sword is usually shorter of blade and longer of handle than most....
Have you spoken to Buegi about having it rehandled?
There are severla Japanese restoration guys in the USA these days, so I know someone could do a nice job for you.
The question is how much money do you want to spend...
Im betting 100$ is about the best price for a quality handle replacement.
