Right now I'm living in Atlanta - the city in the forest. Big culture shock for me as I spent my younger years in a small town in the Midwest, and my teen years out in the middle of nowhere. Police are cool with knives down south too. Anyone else?

I've lived most of my life in the suburbs of Washington D.C.

Spent some time in the army, and was stationed just outside of Frankfurt Germany, San Antonio Texas, and some other places always just outside large cities. I think I am a city boy at heart, because I feel comfortable in big cities. The better half and I enjoy overnight trips to New York City for a show and a great dinner at any of the zillion great ethnic restaurants they have up there. I've done plenty of the wilderness thing, backpacking up until my 50's when some old injuries slowed me down. I liked the wilderness, but preferred to live in urban surroundings. Now as an old retired senior citizen, I've come to the realization I will never hike off into the wilderness agains, but I'm okay with that. I've now come into the greater appreciation of the museums, art galleries, and other amenities the city offers that I didn't fully appreciate in my younger day.

Things change, and we change with them. But I'll always enjoy fishing!

Seattle!!! Knife laws are absurd here. Fixed blade knives are considered dangerous weapons :(. I'm from the south and I prefer a fixed blade on my belt to a folder in my pocket any day.

Yes. And its Police have much bigger things to worry about than me minding my own business and having a knife in my pocket.

Born, raised, and currently reside in the suburbs of Detroit. Both my parents were born and raised in Detroit. They both have fond memories of what Detroit used to be in the 40s-early 60s (my Dad is 82 and Mom 75 to give you a time reference). Parts of Detroit are on their way back but it is, generally, as bad as its rep I hate to admit.

As for knife laws, a folding knife with a blade over 3" can be considered a deadly weapon although they would have to prove intent on your part. To avoid any potential problems, I carry a knife with a blade 3 or under, usually a Delica FFG, Mini Grip, or SAK.

I'm good up to five inches here in ATL, as soon as i have a weapons permit, i'm good for anything except RPGs, Bombs, Sawed offs, and Tanks :D

Don't worry, Mattal21... once you get outside City limits, the rest of our State is just fine with cutlery.

But I love living in Seattle ;) . I work in Kent and typically carry my Bradford Guardian 3.

I was born at Hutzel hospital in Detroit, my parents are both from the east side (SCS and Harperwoods). The 'surge' in people/business in various areas is temporary, IMO. The 'calm before the storm,' so to speak. I happen to like the city (Detroit), but I don't wish to live there. Lol, I've spent a lot of time there. As far as knives, I just carry whatever I want.

I was born and raised in NYC, my family and I moved to Dutchess county NY back in '95. But I travel to NYC everyday to my job.

Ironically my family always had property upstate NY, so I spent weekends and vacations upstate. There was no adjustment for me when I relocated, unfortunately it wasn't as easy for my wife :).
Shortly after we moved there, a rabid raccoon was pacing in the yard hissing and making a commotion. My wife called the animal control officer and by the time he got there , the animal had wondered off. The officer told my wife "if it comes back , it's ok for you to just shoot it". My wife is a Brooklyn girl, she was like... WTF. But that was 19 years ago , now she has a CCW.

Dutchess county has a reputation of being Firearm/knife friendly (lots of hunters and fishermen in the area). It's very common to see most males with a knife clipped to their pocket, even in malls.

The hardest thing for me is leaving for work on a Monday morning and keeping my one-hand opening knives at home, but I got to make a living.

Hey Neighbor. I'm in Atlanta as well. Just north of the perimeter, actually. Yeah, our police don't give a hoot about knives unless you're sticking people with them.

Southern California, San Gabriel Valley.

I rarely see pocket clips on people.
don't really look for people anyway. ≖‿≖

I lived in San Francisco and Oakland. I love the city life simply for the fact that you can be as alone or connected as you wish, no matter how many people are around. The wife and I make it back out there for overnighters as often as we can. Currently living in a small metro area of about 500K, my hometown. If I'm out wandering through the Sage brush in the desert and come across someone else they always want to stop and chat, sometimes I loathe that. I'm there to do my thing on my own.

Metro life is about small circles of close knit associations, having a long list of things to do and never settling for once and done. You never know what's going to happen on a Tuesday night in the city!

I might have had a conversation with you about knives at one point. If you're not the guy then someone else up north of the perimeter is probably on this board too.

We're not quite as lucky as far as State Law but we are not exactly 'oppressive' either...except in Philly where they are trying to make "breathing" illegal...

From my thread here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1266453-FYI-Pennsylvania-Knife-Laws

What is Illegal to Own
It is illegal to own a dagger
It is illegal to own any automatic knife
It is illegal to own a sword cane
It is illegal to own any implement for the infliction of bodily injury, which serves no “common lawful purpose”

Limits on Carry
It is illegal to open or conceal carry a dagger
It is illegal to open or conceal carry any automatic knife
It is illegal to open or conceal carry a sword cane
It is legal to open or conceal carry any hunting knife
It is legal to open or conceal carry any knife that does not open automatically and has a lawful purpose

In part from the thread:

Conclusion on Pennsylvania Knife Law

Back on topic though:

I was born in my city - now a population of about 170,000 people. For a society that size and of equally varying ethnicity, it's an awesome place to live. The crime rate is astonishingly low....."abnormally below average" by many scales. Sure we have our "problem pockets" and occasional "Richard-head" but hey......I've got it better than most.

Its the other way around for me, I live in a city with 100k+ people, between Cologne (1 million+) and Düsseldorf(300k+). The Ruhrgebiet area with 5 million+ is very close too.
Starting a new job on monday in a much lesser populated area, you actually have to drive more than 5 minutes to get to a supermarket or Autobahn onramp lol. But the landscape is of course much nicer, thats a definite plus. Lots of farms and hills and lakes  If everything works out, I'm gonna move there soon.

Was the guy brown skinned and about 6 feet tall?

Nope, I know the other guy has to be on here simply because he knew too much about knives, specifically common knives constantly talked about here. Perhaps he will show up in here.
