Anybody live in major metros?

Lived in the statistical "Greater Chicago Metro Area" for 50 of my 59 years. Always carried a pocket knife or folder, even when I worked Downtown. Never had any trouble, never knew anyone who had trouble with knives. If you are being frisked, the knife wasn't the cause. Gun regulations here can be rather bothersome tho!

45 years in and around Detroit and one year in a suburb of Chicago.

I wanted to live in a rural area where the neighbors weren't exactly few but were far between. I've since realized that I'm a suburbanite. Downtown big city or out in the woods are nice but I prefer a balance of "if one more person moves in around here..." and "I'm glad I don't have to drive 30 minutes to get some ice cream".

I have lived or worked at length in Atlanta, Chicago, DC area, Dallas, Denver, Houston, and a few other places and I know for a fact that I would rather work for less money and live in a smaller city or urban area. It's the traffic that gets to me, not so much knife laws or even gun laws although I prefer the more liberated urban areas.

I've lived in parts of Atlanta my whole life and our traffic doesn't get the credit it deserves. No matter what day, what time, there is traffic. It's awful. Every. Single. Day. 9am -11am, 3pm-8pm, midnight construction, it's just endless...

And unfortunately marta is so inefficient its not a whole lot faster to ride unless your residence and destination is like right on the same train line. Takes me two hours to go into Doraville from Decatur on it.

We ought to get a beer and burger one day. I'm between Doraville and Decatur often.

I spend five days a week in a suburb of Stuttgart but my home is in no where Franconia. I'm from no where SW Florida and much prefer being in no where to any city.

I was cruising though Atlanta about a month ago on a Sunday around 11:00 PM thinking it would be smooth sailing. Not so. The first was a car burning and then a couple accidents to jam things up. Looked like a game had just let out on a Sunday night.

If you aren't used to the traffic, it does take some getting used to the speed and so forth. Atlanta is not for me and as you said, it just keeps getting worse. They add lanes (endless construction) and I suspect there isn't any room to add more in most places.

I was stuck behind the burning Land Rover that day, too. Atlanta and Beijing are the only cities I've lived in where it's normal for people to walk their cars :D

Honestly the traffic isn't usually that bad for a big city, I used to live in Massachusetts, it's way worse there. ATL has a lot of space to spread out in unlike up north. People here drive better too.
