Here's an older pic of my current favorite.

Built it on a "stainless" receiver with a tactical solutions barrel, Trijicon reflex sight, extended mag release + charging handle, and a good trigger job.

The basic idea for it was my wanting a more accurate, but still lightweight 10/22, made for varmint hunting that could reliably feed CCI Stingers--something most aftermarket barrels can't do.....

Suzuki, those look to me like rubber wrapped investments to me. South African battle packs of .308 ammunition if I'm correct. They used to be about $35 each. I saw them last week for $94 each.

Nice pictures. I'll try to get a picture of one of my 10-22's tomorrow. I haven't visited there in quite awhile but rimfirecentral.com had tons of information on 10-22 modifications.

I've got my eye on a tactical solutions barrel. That's a sweet set up.

A little bit off topic but, what are all of those box things in your pic?

South African "surplus" ammo. They're air tight packages made of a soft rubber-like plastic material.

About a dozen 300rnd packs of .223, the rest (about 2-3 dozen) are all 140rnd packs of .308

Here are two of mine, the top one has a Fajen Stock, Volquartzen barrel and Powers internals. It is a heavy rifle easily capable of MOA at 100 yards. Just wouldn't want to carry it very far.

Te second is a very lightweight build, Tactical Solutions barrel, Boyd stock internals including skeletonized hammer built by me. This one is not quite as accurate as the other but very close. It is also light enough to be shot offhand like a pistol.

I have a pair of 10/22's in my safe that I've had for years and have never even fired. Had it in the back of my mind that I would trick out one of them, cause it looks like fun stuff, but never got around to it.

How much does it cost to trick out a 10/22 like that? Do you do it to make your rifle more accurate, or is the fun in modifying your gun? How do those tricked-out 10/22s compare to a bolt action like the CZ 452 (my only .22 rifle).

$1300 in my project:)
its a lot of fun modifying them but they definitely are accurate!

im already planning 3 more builds ;)
not as accurate as a CZ 452 is suppose but damn close

My comments about Ruger 10/22s from a gunsmith's viewpoint.

First of all, I can recall only TWO of them I had to service in many years of working on all makes and models of guns. I've had to do major repairs on every other make of 22 rifle EXCEPT 10/22s. That's no bull.

I recall one of them wherein the two Allen screws that hold the barrel to the receiver had worked loose and the guy's shots were wandering. Took about two minutes to destock, tighten the screws, and it was fixed. The other suffered from the common malady of being detail stripped by the owner who then bent the bolt spring and lost a couple of parts. Again, the fault was 'operator headspace' and not the rifle. Barring excessive cleaning, I don't think you can wear a 10/22 out unless you're a professional shooter.

I can say the same thing about Ruger MK series auto pistols. The ONLY problem I ever see with them is an owner taking one apart and he/she is then unable to get the mainspring assembly correctly back in place. Read the manual and it's no problem. Anyway great guns, especially the rifle and yes, it can be addictive customizing them, plus a hell of a lot of fun.

 That's...more than I would spend, but hey if it's what you want go for it.

How do you like that Fajen stock? I've been contemplating buying that one for my 10/22 but I can't make my mind up.

the next two projects are coming out to be about that same price:D
and i love the fajen, great stock! i would buy it again.

I did the builds on both of mine combined for less than bradpierson26 spent...must of been the price of the scope that raised his build price that high. I do get dealer pricing tho thanks to being an FFl holder...

My heavy 10/22 will shoot as well as most bolt actions with ammo it likes, luckily enough it likes the bulk packed Federal Auto Match. This is a 10 shot group shot at 50 yards...If I hadn't blown 2 rounds a bit high and right it would have 1/4 inch or a bit less.

The biggest key in 22 accuracy is finding the ammo your gun likes best. My other 10/22 likes the Federal Auto Match ok but actually shot it's best groups with that heavy 60 grain Aquilia, which goes against all logic concerning twist rates.

Here's mine... crappy pics, and still under construction.
