anybody modify 10/22s?

Those are some great looking builds. I plan to build one up very soon but I think I am going to base mine on a 10/22 Charger.

Just bear in mind that if you put a rifle stock on a 10/22 Charger you will have created a SBR and will be in violation of the NFA.

Thanks for the heads up. I was planning on keeping it a pistol for a bit and if I wanted a shoulder stock down the road I will get at least a 16" barrel for it as well. I just figure the versatility of having a legal 10/22 pistol is worth the slight price increase.

If you do so make sure you get rid of the short barrel (or at least store it in another household), ATF will consider the possession of a short barrel and a rifle stock to constitute intent and it is the same as if you had put them together. Also once it has become a rifle they can actually charge you with making a SBR if you reinstall the original barrel and stock. If is safer for your freedom to simply buy two firearms than to try and change them back and forth. I know this sounds silly but I was a class III dealer for quite a few years, the rules sre complicated enough you can't even get the same answer out of two different ATF agents...lol.

I think if you make a rifle out of and then switch it back to a pistol you're in violation of the NFA as well. You might want to do some research on that, I know the BATF has some strange interpretations of the law.

Does anyone use CCI SGB ammo for pests ? How do you like it ?

The SGB is great for harvesting small game as it does not tear them up that much and is very accurate. I prefer Stingers, Yellow Jackets (hard to find) or standard hollowpoints for varmints.

me and my best friend shooting in boise over the weekend.
im on the left.
we both have heavily modified 10/22s, he just bought a ruger charger too

Aw shucks, you guys are giving me the bug. I have a 10/22 but I got it to teach my daughters shooting. So it has a children's stock on it and a short barrel and as a result I don't enjoy shooting it very much.

Now I'm thinking about getting the girls something else to shoot (I saw a pink-stocked bolt action .22 at the gun shop yesterday -- didn't catch the make or model) so I can trick out my 10/22. Oh woe is me and my check-book ....

 That's...more than I would spend, but hey if it's what you want go for it.
I've long said the 10/22 is the easiest <$200 rifle that you can dump $1K into and not realize or care. A couple of small mods here, a few parts there, some nice glass and BAM you've dropped 3-4 times the price of the base rifle.:D

I've seen guys buy one and then ditch everything but the receiver.

i only have the receiver and like half the trigger group.
can you still call it a RUGER 10/22 if you dont have a single ruger part in there? its questionable....

Here is my little one. This is one I made up. Butler Creek stock (modified), inexpensive red dot scope, threaded bbl. I haven't played with this one in awhile but I will probably add a bit of rail under the forend so I can add a flashlight.

Yes, it has the required paperwork and is registered as a SBR.

Just a plinker. Or with a suppressor it's a great around the house "critter-gitter".

I just got my first 10/22, This is going to cost me alot. :D

So where is the best place to order a new barrel, stock, trigger group, and all that fun stuff?

I kinda wanna keep it under $550ish with scope.

Any one wanna make me a order list, of the parts i need and the good stuff? Ill send you a free knife. Email me :)

What do you want it to do?

For stocks you have all kinds of choices from target/adjustable in wood and synthetic, folding and a couple that emulate the AR15 that are even compatible with AR products.

Barrels are in heavy bull barrels, lightweight aluminum and carbon and come in many lengths and threaded or not.

Trigger groups can either be bought outright or you can modify the stock one to get a nice 2-3 lb crisp trigger.

As far as the other options your wallet and imagination are your limits. After saying all that, I don't even own a 10/22 because after all my internet research I decided to get a dedicated 22lr AR upper so I can't give any advice on any particular items to get. Keep us updated on your build because another cheap plinker (I use the term loosely) is always needed/wanted.

Man, I've been surfing all day looking at after market and custom 10/22 stuff then I get to BF and find this thread. rimfire central has lots of info and cool pics, www.coolguyguns.com has lots of after market bits built by a former AMU gunsmith, www.tacticalsol.com has lots more 10/22 parts including there own receiver. I really want to build a shorty off the tacsol receiver, hogue overmold stock and a top rial for a scope and open sights, I'm thinking magpul polymer buis just for fun.
aaarrrggg, I need to make more money;-)>
