Anybody planning to make any new Youtube (video) review on Himalayan Imports blades?

It is not because about more sharks in the water, as I have no trouble in my collecting as you can well see :D; It is about the nature of the business, power is not constant, if you want a factory produced blade , there are many companies in nepal that offer high quality factory product!
as it is we rely on the kami's whom we know the names of, and that is pretty much it other than the khuks bought in towns by HI.

my only point is that if you want to make a marketing drive you should include the people you are trying to market for.

Also I sell propane, it is like itself pretty much , and other dealers in necessity products --- I can't really claim to understand all the minutea that auntie faces as an import retailer, and just think, again, that you should include the company you want to market for, I have no problem with HI succeeding, I just do not want the reason for that success to be lost in producing as much as possible.( as uncle and auntie could have built a proper factory long ago and just machine stamped out blades like every other khukuri retailer.)

I think the best thing to do, is wait until Auntie or Karda, lets us know whether they can handle an influx of new customers, and would like our assistance in maybe finding a way to increase demand. Remember though, with the infrastructure presently in place, could HI handle more business? Only auntie would really know.

General business practice also states that you can only support growth, or scale, if you have the proper business infrastructure in place; otherwise, instead of expanding, the business will contract.

If auntie is happy with the way HI currently is, then who are we to change it, even if we believe its for the best? It isn't our company, we are just customers, granted, a little fanatical, but only customers nevertheless.

Also, remember when nutnfancy did his review? Auntie had such an influx of new customers, that she literally had her stock shelves barren, and she was sooo busy, by her own admission. That is a hint at how much a small influx of "new sales" affects HI right now. If auntie decides not to expand, or increase the support of her business infrastructure, she may not be able to handle a serious influx of new customers, in which more business wouldn't necessarily be better, in HI's case.

Auntie also seems to be very hands on, and she may not be willing, or able, to release that control, to have HI scale. In which case, it would stay as a "small personal business", which right now, HI excels at being, and I have no wish to see it change, unless the owners deem to do so.

...Yep!

Two thoughts come to my incredibly small mind.

1. Auntie it truly hands on, if it happens it's because she does it.

2. Don't mess with success. This isn't about business plans and college edumucation smoke and mirrors or even remotely getting rich. This is about real life, taking care of herself and her people here and in Nepal with no aspirations to become richer than Davy Crockett. If I was starting a business I'd seek Auntie's council and suggestions. She knows how to run a company.

And that's all I got to say about that.

Amen Mr. B!

Agree to disagree I guess. I have been to one to many BNI meetings, guess I might be a little jaded. Most people are in business to make money otherwise non of us would even go to work. Just cant wrap my head around more business being bad. I will just leave it at that.

I understand your POV GB.

I'm like you, but keep in mind, it's a one person operation, and they are not in it for the money. If you can take those two facts, you'll see that our way of thinking isn't on par with HI's actual goals.

Personally, I can't sit through the fanboy "infomercial" type videos on YouTube, because they really don't tell me anything other than the person who made it really likes the product. I would rather see informative videos of HI products, comparing several at once, explaining the similarities and differences, a bit on the background and region for each pattern, and of course practical cut/chop tests showing they are so much more than just big choppers. I think it would help folks make more informed purchases, and end up with more interest in the Wonderful World of the Bent Blade in general.

Production wise, it would mean the host would need to be blessed with (or at least have access to) a decent collection, and follow a script so each video would put the group of examples through the same test-and-talk formula, which should make filming and editing easier as things go. Maybe I'm splitting hairs too fine, but I see a great opportunity for someone to use HI examples to promote the Kukri, rather than limiting itself to a more narrow focus of just another marketing video on YouTube. Take the HI road, if you will excuse the bad pun.

Guess your right Cul... It just contradicts everything I learned in school. It is like someone telling you the sky is green instead of blue after 40 years of being on this earth. I guess I have attended one to many business, marketing, and sales classes. It just goes against everything I have been taught, but like someone said earlier... its not my company. If it were I my company I would probably be at my beach house in Malibu while I hired others to handle things :p

There are outlines available on the internet for such topics. An outline of the video beforehand makes everything very easy. It is just like in college when they wanted a 25 page thesis double spaced... It may sound like a daunting task but a good outline will solve every problem

Here is how I usually outline thesis papers but it will also work well in video production

1.Opening paragraph or two explaining your points and topics you wish to discuss

2. First Topic
a. breakdown of topic
b. explanation of you opinion
c. reasons for your opinion
d. conclusion drawn from experience or use

3 Second topic
a. ditto from first topic
b. ditto
c. ditto
d. ditto

So on and so forth... You can write or direct just about anything with that simple formula. It has saved me in more than a few classes. I usually can get two pages out of one topic by following the outline. Twelve topics = 25 pages or Twelve topics = 20 minute review.

I unlike others don't think you should ask permission to review any product. Just do a fair and honest review, whether good or bad. If it brings customers than so be it, I remember looking through YouTube for HI stuff and was kinda let down because there weren't enough videos for me to drool over. You don't need permission to do a product review just don't put a link to the website or store. A review is a review, good or bad, information should never be feared. Fear the people that fear information.

Gurkha you hit the point exactly,i can not more agree with, what you just said here.....Reason i put up this thread,is just as you said,,,,it would be very nice to see more reviews on HI blades on the net....There are few good ones,-Knifeguy,Nutnfancy,etc.but the rest is not very good and are also very rare....Some guys here, who owns giant collections could really fill this gap with outstanding videos, but of course, its up to everyone's discretion to do so.....For example some countries may not have very friendly law, when it comes to stuff like this and it is understandable to not cause any unnecessary attention drawing on www this way....

My two cents: If a person wants to do a You Tube review of his or her personal Khukuri, that is their prerogative and no one else's. Being a small, one man, hands on business for over 40 years, things get done in a certain fashion because that's the way I want them done. So, do not put yourself in the position that will jeopardize the way I do, and prefer to do, things or I'm not going to be a pleasant SOB. I can imagine that Mrs. Martino is doing what she wants to do, the way she wants to do it, and I will not be one to step on her toes. On the other side of the coin, I have been in many business meetings, too. 32 years at Maytag as a department head and 750+ employees. (Seems like the "right" way to do business changes every 5 years or so.) People started changing Maytag's old-fashioned way of doing business--making washing machines that would last forever. Someone came in, bought the company and Maytag is no longer Maytag. Almost every one of the Maytag employees lost their jobs and others put Maytag labels on a product made else where. From my past personal experiences, I say to you: In a nut shell, everyone needs to keep their noses out of HI's business operation.
