Anybody rocking the Byrd?

I am literally blown away by the build quality of this. Fantastic knife!

I have the Byrd Raven 2 and switched out the copper washers from my spyderco resilience with the plastic ones it had, so smooth.

I have a Cara Cara 2 Rescue that I keep as my canoeing knife. I wanted something with an aggressive serrated edge to use to cut fibers things like rope, clothing, life vest straps, etc... and that could be carried unobtrusively and opened and closed one handed. Well, turns out this was the perfect knife for the job. I also liked that it was inexpensive enough that if it fell to the bottom of a lake, i wouldn't cry.

I love the knife. Cuts like crazy, nice F/F, solid lockup... i mean really, what's not to like? Hell, what's not to LOVE? I bought it just to keep for canoeing, but it has founds its way into the EDC rotation.

I'd like to see more info on this.

the top knife is my spyderco resilience which is the big brother to the tenacious and persistent it came with copper washers im assuming which are a premium part because its spyderco and below is a spyderco byrd raven 2 it is a great knife almost perfect for me with the cts-bd1 steel blade minus the fact it came with plastic washers and im assuming that's a money saving tactic for spydercos economically friendly bryd line. Since the byrd is my EDC i just swapped out each others washers so now the resilience has the byrds original plastic washers and the byrd raven 2 has the resiliences premium copper washers and it is a big upgrade its so smooth now.

Check out the Raven 2, the nicest byrd by far IMHO. This knife has great ergos and is nicely overbuilt. The best f&f of the byrds that ive seen and handled.

Glad to hear you like this, it has caught my interest. One of my "dream knives" has been a slightly smaller Stretch with liner lock, mid-range steel and G10; this looks like as close as I'm gonna get.

My question to you, and anyone who owns the newer Byrds in CTS-BD1 : How is the thickness behind the edge? All four Byrds I've owned (Cara Cara 2, Robin 2, Meadowlark 2, Tern; all FFG and 8cr13mov) had obnoxiously thick grinds. I mitigated this somewhat on the two I kept (Cara and Robin) with a nice deep convex, but the cutting performance has never been great on either.

Apart from the grind and the steel, these are well-made knives.

It would be nice if they were more widely available in brick & mortars, I think they're a great entry point to higher quality.

I would honestly love it if some of the big box stores picked them up and stocked 'em in the sporting goods section. It would make for easy last minute gift buying and would expose a heck of a lot of folks to the Spyderco addiction.

I think the jimping on the byrd raven 2 needs to be a little more aggressive

For the money these can't be beat.
The Meadowlark with Hawkbill blade is the one I use the most.
Its serrations are aggressive and the steel holds up fine and when it does need sharpening I use diamond rods and Sharpmaker to keep it slicey.

I've gotten the Ti CaraCara2 that I've stonewashed the scales....I love it, especially how the 3 grooves stayed nice and dark, I'll post pics tomorrow....the thing is, I'm thinking about selling it off...hummm o.O

I own a Raven 2 and I got my Brother a Crow 2 this summer...... They've been holding up well to farm use, fishing, and hunting! Great knife for the $$ IMO

Agreed. I could buy more too. My wife is more apt to allow for in store impulse buys than ordering from a website. She equates ordering online to costing more. She's no dummy and totally gets it. Plus she handles the money in the household even though I make it. I suck with money, got no problem with addition....it's the subtraction part. Lol

I gifted a rescue just recently and just reordered a Cara Cara 2 in combo edge, the first I gifted to someone on the forum about a year ago. The funny thing about the combo edges is that the CC2 version gives you plenty of surface for both the plain edge and the combo to be useful in a lot of scenarios. Like BD1 the 8CRMov13 steel is super easy to maintain and is stain resistant. I love the chisel grind on the CC2 as well.
