• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Anybody seen one of these?

A colleague at work was doing some research for a project and came across this doodad./ Knowing I'm a closet survival nut he called me over and showed it to me. Looks like its made by High Gear. Anybody know anything about it? Looks like a great little compact kit. I can see a thermometer, a whistle, a light, a compass, a magnifying glass, what I think is a scratch pad for the matches, and the match container at the back.

If it's not constructed out of inferior materials, I reckon you could carry something far worse than that in your pocket as your go-to pocket flashlight. I am a firm believer in the Department of Redundancy Department, if it is built well, looks cool to me. :D

Wow, I didn't even realize that. I left for quite a few years and came back a little over a year ago. Maybe I need me one of them 5,000 post giveaways or something. :)

I wonder how that dry compartment on that contraption works? I wonder if it really is a "dry" compartment or if that is simply wishful thinking...You could still put a Spark-Lite in there and some fine steel wool and you can shake the water out of steel wool...it would work.

I am a sucker and love doodads like this. I would probably buy one, never carry it , and then put it away. Find it mothts later and then give it to my young nephew who would think its the greatest gizmo in the world.

I'm not a super fan of all in one items...if you loose it or something happens to it you're SOL.

This is probably a dumb question, but what do you need a thermometer for in a survival situation? (or even hunting/camping)
