I didn't know they were making these with nickel bolsters in 2011.

Anybody heard how many are around?

First one I've seen. Did it come with box? If not do you suppose that it could be a factory re-blade/re-furb before sale??
Just wondering...

Could be.

It came all alone off the Bay.

It does have a few dings and doesn't look real shiny new like.

It is the exact knife my wife bought me in 1994 that started the madness. I love it and still have it in the collection.

The scales were my clue...they look like some I have seen on '94 knives...Obeechee???
Still, a nice looking 112:thumbup:
I am particularly fond of the NS frames:)

Well, I guess it has morphed into a one of a kind collectible 112.

Funny how that happens.

:D

In the first pic you can see a tiny spot on each rivet on the left side butt bolster.

Is that a clue it's been taken apart?

hard tellin' not knowin'...if taken apart and put back together well , then buffed up properly, I don't think anyone could ever tell... they could be just ranom dings...

Wow.

You should get registered as a Buck Rehabilitation Expert.

Might be simple to you, but it's a miracle to most of us.

:)

As for mine, I'm glad to pick up a Nickel 112--no matter how it came to be.

Was the plywood really that distinctive that year that you can narrow it down like that? Or are you going by other aspects of the knife as well?

I can see why you'd like it. It's a striking knife and the red tint to the scale is quite attractive.

I cld the Buck Factory Store (800 326 2825) today to see if they had the nickel silver 112 Ranger available. They haven't had it, don't have it now and won't have it in the future.

So, your knife, well, uh, errrr, doesn't even sound like a factory-made maybe. Huh. Bother.

However, I bumped into a vendor that says they get them on sometimes...

Yes.....I think that other people have unexpectedly gotten both 110s and 112s in nickel in years when they were NOT being made.

I would guess that occasionally Buck has a few nickel parts to use up and they just run them in with all the rest.

I'm tending to agree with Sit and MBJ that this one is likely a blade replacement, but I'm not entirely sure.....suppose I never will be.

Meanwhile......I like it.

:)

 What's not to like! How's the action and lock up on that one BG ?
Like you, I am happy to get ANY nickel 112's...;)

The action is tight. When I first got it, depressing the lock release to close the blade was HARD and it took a bit of effort to depress the lock release and you had to push down fairly hard on the blade to get it to go.

The knife was a bit dirty inside, too.

So, I have since blasted it with WD-40 and then blasted it with Rem-Oil and removed some black crud inside and out and it works pretty smoothly now.

There is still a slight audible click when the lock is depressed to close the blade.

I haven't bought a new 112 or 110 in many years so I don't know if these things might be characteristic of a new one.

This one came off the Bay and the bolsters looked a little like nickel so I sent the seller a note and verified it and then quickly used the Buy it Now.

I would have to beleive that was a factory reblade, I sent in a 2 dot 110 with a short blade for the spa treatment but it was returned with a new blade in the old frame. I cant complain though as I didnt specify exactly what was wanted. So I guess I have one of those "RARE" 110's myself. I also have the Silver bolstered 112 I bought at a local swap meet for $12.00, it's been to the Spa also and is my favorite Large buck. I personally prefer the smaller Traditional patterns especially the Schrade made one's.

STDK, I think I paid about $30 for mine, so you got a deal.

The thing about mine is that the body and blade are from the same era so you can't be sure about them.

Your 112 has the old style body and a new blade so anybody who knows 112s can tell it's a re-blade.

Can't tell that way with mine.....but I have to suspect a re-blade is more likely.

I'm just glad that I noticed the bolsters looked a little silvery in the pics.

Nice job.
I've got a pawn shop 110 I picked up a little while ago that was used as a hammer almost as bad as your 112. I can't imagine why anybody would beat a knife like that, even if it's an inexpensive one.

Amazingly I've got the hammer marks sanded out and will continue on with a rescale and other modifications.
