Anybody shave with a straight razor?

The difference in face feel from the different stones surprised me.

The translucent Arkansas is my favorite and feels noticeably sharper and smoother to me than other stones.

Synthetic waterstones are easy to use and fast, but the edges definitely feel harsh.

Coticules edges feel smooth, but not sharp feeling to me at all.

Never went down the JNat rabbit hole.

Razorock soaps are my favorites.

Safety razors scare me, yet a straight razor is totally comfortable to me. Makes no sense, but is the result of life’s journey I guess.
I have often wanted to try Razorock!

I know there are more people on this forum that shave with and own straight razors.
Used em for years before a health issue
and hospital "vacation "
I was shakier than I was comfortable
with and used various disposables
for a very long time. In the meantime
I started head shaving and have done
that for years. Never went away from
the mug and brush. Sadly saw the exit
of Williams Shaving Soap. I didn't know
about it until it was too late to stock up
with a few years worth.
I recently let everything go too long,
and my razors were clogging up
pretty bad. I got pretty mad and
frustrated and dug out the first of
my razors that I could find, a blue
Herders I've had for many years and
swiped in on a hone a few times and
stropped the hooey out of it and
lo and behold I shaved the remainder
of my head and face to baby's butt
smoothness and didn't need stiches.
I decided to put the 2 Herders away
and concentrate on the Heljestrand
I have, and one of my unmarkeds.
Unfortunately, sometime last year
my long time favorite "MADE IN ENGLAND " cup was shattered, and
I'm using one of the gift set mugs
I've received in the past.
Same strop, same everything else
I've had for decades. Nothing spectacular.
I don't know that I'll ever be able
to shave my head with one though.
That's pretty dicey
( can't get the site to post a photo
from my saved files, so you'll have
close your eyes and imagine it)

Glad you were able to go back to the straight. I can shave my face all day with a straight, but the one time I tried shaving my head with it, the scene looked like something out of a horror movie. I will stick modern razors for head shaving.

I enjoy straight shaving alot. Have found Shell Strop after a Belgian Coticule to produce type of edge that feels good. Rarely need anything more then a cold water rinse n alum block if the edge is right. Septic stick was friend when first started.

I respect anyone who uses a straight on a regular basis. I've tried on two occasions to switch. I guess I don't have the steadiness to pull it off. I'm ok with shaving being a masochistic rite but draw the line at life threatening. I've wondered if my poor eyesight may have something to do with it. I can see why DE razors became so popular so fast. And that is my compromise with tradition: I use a 20's Gillette Aristocrat DE razor.
Those are really nice too. Ive got a 36' Gillette DE use if in a real hurry for something.

Nice collection of razors! I'm pretending I didn't see the Shavette.

FWIW, I was able to dispense with the alum block once I trained my hands to use absolutely no pressure against the skin, and got my honing to a good place.

Found a pic of most of my razor collection before I sold them! I kept a few in case I want to try again. I was collecting Connecticut made razors, as well as Japanese razors, and others with different grinds to try to see how they worked on my face:
