Anybody Still Carry These?

I never got into the tins. I like a soft side case but yes when ever I am in the field I have a few items with me.

Yes, the metal case can be pretty helpful for a dry spot to light and keeping the tinder dry mostly. Always good to have a fire kit and some backup items.

I usually have something of that sort but I always gotta have a ace bandage with me and if not real stitches or stapler waxed dental floss and some needles for stitches. My fist aid kits are well stocked simply because I'm accident prone....lol

I eventually have to make new tin and throw my Victorinox Swiss Card there because I otherwise never use it. Thanks for the idea! :)

My 1020 pelican case kit has , band aids , some 550 (bout 2m maybe) a signal mirror , 16 water puro tabs , some KFC moist towelettes , an lmf army firesteel (old model) 25 storm proof matches , Two blocks of wetfire, a tiny led lenser keyring torch , a full size Bic lighter , an ermegency blanket from a first aid kit , a leatherman new wave , a whistle , a few strips of duct tape , a sewing needle and some thread , and a tiny compass. I need to get better at building kits as there's a few things I need to add. But this is just a last ditch kit that lives in my EDC pack.

The Condor i-Pouch works really well at holding an Altoids Tin in the front pouch and can easily hold a compass and firesteel in the zippered pouch. The back is made to be mounted to PALS/MOLLE, but can easily be attached to your belt.

I have a few of them. They are well worth the $5-10.

I always carry even for day hikes little ditty/stuff sacks, one for Emergency and FAK, one for firelighting
Longer distance and different places take other stuff
Similar to what Pinnah posted

Well I carry my tin knife that you made. I don't really carry a tin much anymore. I have to carry much larger medical and emergency kits now.

I do...no pics available though :( .....

I have both 'urban' and "woods" based Altoids tins that I carry as appropriate.

I was known for being "over prepared" back in the scouts. But when everyone else forgot stuff I had extra everything. Still applies to me today. Have a over packed day backpack in my truck at all times plus a personal FAK, and a trauma kit in the event it's ever needed.

I used to use an altoids but I moves to a BCB waterproof tin for multiple reasons. The main reason is that it's waterproof and I've been kayaking a lot lately, keeps everything dry in the event I tip over and all my gear gets wet. Other reasons are that it's a bit larger(but not too big) so it holds more and I also like the latching lid. It's a solid piece of gear. I actually carry two, one for all my first aid stuff and the other for survival gear. They fit great in my 5.11 bags interior pockets.

I always thought the altoids tin was too small, although in theory it's a good idea.

I made this video awhile ago, but it has improved a little since then. Basically, it's a small kit I will take with me for short day hikes(no more than 3 hours, less than 8 miles). For longer hikes or overnight trip, everything is upgraded and with a 'larger kit'/items:

I have my tin with knife with me all the time - it is in my "man bag" and has been with me for several years now.

The inside of my tin looks like the stuff has been tumbled!

best

I have stuff all over, in packs, knife sheaths, van glove box, you name it. I do this primarily because when tired or in a rush I have forgotten items. It is nice to go to the second or third back up and find needed resources.
