Anybody Try Vacuum-Packing the Contents of Their PSK or Go Bags??

The low end Foodsaver works fine, it is just slow to vac a lot of air out. The bags that are already sealed on one end start at about 25cents apiece, so a box is like 10 bucks. Sometimes you can get continuos rolls, which let you be stingy about the length you are useing.

A cheap and fairly effective way to "vacuum seal" your clothes is to fold them flat so they fit into a large ziploc bag, put them in the bag and partially seal it so there is about 2 - 5cm left open, place the bag on a hard flat surface and start rolling up the bag and contents firmly until you get right up to the ziploc and then put a knee on the roll and seal the bag. Unroll it and you will be surprised how "vacuum sealed" it is.

I guess I did okay getting the Foodsaver and two cases of bag rolls for $5 at a garage sale

I tried doing this, but friction caused small holes in some of the packets, letting the air out. and leaving them not quite waterproof. I tried it with a zippo lighter to keep the fuel from evaporating. It didn`t work.

For a Zippo, take a ranger band -- a section of an old bike inner tube -- and cover the opening. The fuel will stay in there without leaking or evaporating for the longest time.
