I have a knife in the temper oven - got it clamped to a large, heavy, flat plate of mild steel. Normally, I would just sandwich it between two plates...but I can't find the other one. 
Has anybody used clamps like this?
Any danger of toxic fumes? I assume it's case-hardened? Maybe not...
