Anybody use Old Hickory for bush "fun"?

HARDBALL:
Old Hick's make great field knives and they are easily modified to suit whatever task you have in mind. The red, white and blue ones are some of the newest, I think they are all from the thinner stock. The red pack ones are older, and are the thicker stock. The blue pack ones are older than the red I believe and are thick as well. The grinds in the blue pack range vary a little but I don't know how to describe that, but I may be able to post a pic if anyone is interested. Did I mention I like OH's?

I used one for a $20 bushcraft/survival weekend! Best blade you can by for under $20.

The seven inch cutlas style Old Hickory makes a great Kephart. I just refurbished one - I will post pics. It has great stock handles - but I plan on rehandling it I like it that much.

If possible, take some pics of the rehandling process.

I get paid on the 20, I'm probably gonna make a Baryonyx order then and pick up one of these, along with a Douk Douk and a few other things.

I've got an old set hanging on the kitchen wall. I got them from my mother when she passed, and you sure can tell which was her favorite.
I have no idea how old they are but she had them when I was a kid and I'm 52.

There are both original pattern ones as well as some newer ones done in (I think) full flat ground stock so they don't have the roll marking. The original type is seemingly still around (they remain available for me to buy through my distribution channels for my shop over a year after the newer style ones were introduced) so I don't think they're an endangered species right now. :)

I bought one of the older style 14" blades from you. It was the upgrade version with a bit of wood shaping, and a hair shaving edge. I really like it :) I'd like to modify another one into a short sword (G10 handle, etc). Excellent value imho.

Hi Blue Sky,

Sorry for the late reply, I just now "re-discovered" this thread. Thank you Blue for the information on Old Hickory packing history. Yep, I too really like the "Old Hickory" (and other vintage) Butcher (type) knives. I recently found this video on youtube that might be of interest to some here at BF. I'd LOVE to have one of these! Might anyone know if this Gentleman is a BF member ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ziV3R9Jcro

Regards,

HARDBALL
