Anybody using a Kalamazoo 2 x 72?

I might be able to pick up a slightly used Kalamazoo for almost half the cost of new so I was wondering if it's worth it or if I should stick with the 1x30 for now.

Definitely a step up from a 1 X 30. Just remember that for under a grand you can be in a decent variable speed 2 X 72 as has been discussed in many threads recently

Just for the sake of asking which model Kalamazoo is it and how fast is it running? If it's direct drive off a wheel grinder style setup you might wanna pass it up.

My old Kalamazoo is a 1 hp with a belt and pulley driving it so I could ( if I needed or wanted to ) swap that motor for something that allowed variable speed (and lots of accessories and wheels) which is where you wanna get to eventually.

It's belt driven, it looks like the 672. The guy said he only used it a handful of times and I asked him what size the motor is and the model number but he hasn't answered me back yet. He's asking 450.

That seems wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much for a Kalamazoo which aren't that easy to accessorize these days.

I paid about $200 for mine off Craigslist awhile ago. That sucker is not gonna sell fast for that much. Maybe you need to let him stew for awhile then, eventually, I'd offer him $150 and shoot for $225 unless there's something compelling about it.

Ok-good to know. I was going on the fact that it was barely used and they are $729 plus shipping on Jantz. I'll see if he comes down any since $450 would be quite a stretch for me at the moment anyway. Thanks for your help.

You're welcome....................

It's interesting that the only place I see that exact model grinder is on Jantz and not even Kalamazoo's own website. Could it be that it has been discontinued and if that's the case shouldn't Jantz be selling them cheaper then that? Strange.................

At $729 I bet they haven't sold one in a year.

I'll reiterate my prior comment. In this case being very, very patient is your friend.
