Anyone Carry a Full Size Multitool Loose in their Pocket?

Hey everyone!

I keep finding more and more moments when I wish I had a multitool, so I decided to make one part of my EDC.

I have small pocket friendly multitool, but they just don't cut it (pun intended) for what I need, so I want to go full size, like a Leatherman Wave or Rebar.

The problem is I carry a knife clipped to my left front pocket, a light clipped to my right front pocket, my wallet in my back left, and my phone in my back right (when not sitting). I absolutely do not like anything on my belt, so my only option is loose in one of my front pockets.

Does anyone do this? How does it work out for you? What tool (full size) do you carry? I don't want to give up anything I already carry, as I like having a dedicated blade and light.

Thanks!

You need to get carpenter or painter pants with extra pockets. A full sized multi-tool slides right in the ruler pocket.

I sometimes carry a leatherman in my pocket, I forgot the model but it has the straight lines and length of the rebar. Never had a problem doing this.

I usually put my Leatherman Skeletool in the coin pocket of my jeans. It's a little smaller than the wave and rebar, but it does everything I need, and it has a pocket clip.

I carry a SAK Compact and whatever EDC I feel like carrying that day. On days that I want to carry my Leatherman Wave, I leave the SAK at home and the Wave fits just fine. I used to carry a flashlight, but I just don't see a purpose (in my life) for it anymore. My phone is almost ALWAYS on me... And if I need a flashlight, the LED on the phone is usually more than sufficient.

Nope, can't do it.

Got a Maxpedition EDC pouch that has a full size in it, along with flashlight and other stuff I don't want to carry in my pockets.

I wear shorts pretty much 24/7, so I'm pretty ultralight nowadays. Carry wise, not body wise.

When in the great outdoors I carry a SwissTool RS, which is heavy but extremely well built, with lot of well-designed useful tools.

I use my Tulster NeoMag to carry a Leatherman Crunch or Gerber. I picked it up to use with my Glock 29 magazine but it doesn't work very well with the polymer magazine. Works great on a multitool.

Can't do it 99% of the time, only when wearing my over all's and it's not exactly loose.

I think what you need to do is get used to having a multitool on your belt, it's the best way to carry a multitool there will ever be.

I also carry a Skeletool when I carry a Leatherman these days. Love the versatility of carry: clip to back pocket, front/coin pocket, dangle it from a belt loop, put it in a pouch with the extra bits when you need them.

You could have a leather pouch made, with a leather lanyard secured to your belt. This will aid in keeping it upright, and protect your knife from the bare metal, while allowing for ease of retrieval.

Technically the tool will be in your pocket, with the lanyard length determined by pocket depth. This will let the bottom of the sheath rest lightly on the bottom of the pocket and not flop sideways or be uncomfortable while walking.

The extra bits for the skeletool are key, the only tool I use more than the screwdriver is the bottle opener

I keep a Leatherman Rebar in my left front pocket. I could see how it could be seen as annoying but I suppose I have just grown used to it. Good luck friend.

I tried this with my Leatherman Rebar for a day or two before switching to a belt sheath. Great multitool, but it was like a brick at the bottom of my pocket.

Its no

It's not a matter of being used to it, but I used to carry a rescue cutter on my belt, and at work AND at home (in public) it drew too much attention...I have even had someone at a restaurant blatantly ask if the small bulge under my shirt was a firearm (eye roll). Since then, I stay away from anything on my belt...my community is not very weapon friendly, even if it is in fact just a multitool.

And believe me, I tried to talk my wife into moving...no luck, she loves it here.

Modern conditioning sucks. I remember a time when it was perfectly normal for a person to carry a Buck 110 in a leather sheath on their belt or even a fixed blade; kids would not be questioned if they pulled a Case trapper or something similar out of their pocket to open a package or cut some loose thread from their shirt... and I am not that old... sigh:(

With everyone carrying all sorts of electronic gagets on their belts, adding multi-tool should get scant notice. Try putting it in a cell phone case.
