Anyone Carry a Full Size Multitool Loose in their Pocket?

Those things are too heavy to carry every day in normal cloths on a belt I would never carry one loose in my pocket.

I usually carry a SAK in addition to my EDC knife, something like a Pioneer X or Huntsman. On very few occasions I carry a multitool in one of my pockets, and even then it's usually a Juice or a Rebar at the most.

They are too bulky and I don't like belt sheaths nor do I wear cargo pants often.

I always have a full size multitool in my backpack or briefcase.

The only exception is when I'm working at my ranch. I carry a full size multitool on my person.

I'm a cargo pant/shorts guy. My MT is in its sheath in my right cargo pocket. I tend to keep it in the sheath since I do occasionally switch to belt carry.

I have always carried my Surge in a belt sheath.
To much other stuff in my pockets, lights, blades, lighters etc.

Lateck,

I carry my skeletool from time to time. The bottle opener came in especially handy this weekend.

Leatherman sells a pocket clip that snaps into a Charge, Surge, or Wave. It is pretty nice, and comes in handy.

Ya could try this:

Attaches to your belt loop and drops in your pocket. Protects everything and makes retrieval easy, just pull on the thong and there ya are. Leave the pouch hanging while ya use your tool and then replace.

I use to but it poked a hole in the pocket over time, so I grab an old fold back knife sheath and put it there and then put it in the pocket. That's when I don't want things on the belt snagging on any thing.

I was just going to suggest something like this.
It sucks that he can't even have a multitool on his belt without getting looks, but this would be a great way to go.
A sheath that attaches to your belt and hangs down into your pocket.

I carry a Leatherman Charge on occasion, but not everyday. I wear relatively tight jeans, Wranglers. In my left front pocket EDC I carry a couple of ink pens, a Fenix PD25 light, a couple of flash drives. I can put the Charge in there too and it works but is just enough bulk to be uncomfortable at times. I think if I did it frequently it would wear out the pocket quickly. I also have a Skeletool and a Leatherman Juice for EDC use but never got in the habit of using them. I have the clip for my Charge and sometimes when I carry it I clip it to the top edge of my jeans above the righthand pocket with the Charge inside of my pants. This works relatively well unless I end up sitting down all day.

Everybody's needs are different but I found that working in my office I don't need the multitool very often so I don't need it for EDC. I do use it occasionally on weekends or when traveling so that is when I carry it.

I am always impressed with it your work. I posted this idea (minus the pics) back in post #12. I hope he goes for it. It makes for an easy and lighter feeling carry, since the belt or loop can carry some of the weight.
You could have a leather pouch made, with a leather lanyard secured to your belt. This will aid in keeping it upright, and protect your knife from the bare metal, while allowing for ease of retrieval.

Technically the tool will be in your pocket, with the lanyard length determined by pocket depth. This will let the bottom of the sheath rest lightly on the bottom of the pocket and not flop sideways or be uncomfortable while walking.

Modern conditioning sucks. I remember a time when it was perfectly normal for a person to carry a Buck 110 in a leather sheath on their belt or even a fixed blade; kids would not be questioned if they pulled a Case trapper or something similar out of their pocket to open a package or cut some loose thread from their shirt... and I am not that old... sigh:(
I agree on the conditioning. I don't know if it's modern or not, but it's there and I don't like it. I mean, who really cares if you carry a knife on your belt? It is different if you are waving it around for no apparent reason. But some care strongly. I care about people who have their faces glued to their cell phones all the time.... I mean, what on earth are they doing? The world is passing them by and they have no awareness to it.

Take the city of London, England. The mayor apparently is instituting a total knife ban and in some cases making it illegal to even own certain knives or types of knives.

To answer the full size multi-tool carry question.... I wouldn't. Wear suspenders, then the heavy multi-tool or even a Buck 110 won't drag your pants down to your knees. The only time I carry a full size multi-tool is when I know I am going to need to use it. Otherwise, it's in my truck or desk.

I carry a mini as EDC. When I know I'm gonna need the large multitool, I'll keep it close by, but never carry it loose in my pocket. Too heavy and awkward. My dad has an awesome belt sheath that rides low, it is more comfortable than the standard sheaths. He EDC's his in that.

When I'm working with it I drop my Charge into my pocket, it usually stays there till I remember the next day. Strange as it's pretty heavy.

I carry a Surge on my belt, or a Sideclip clipped to RFP ;)
Just loose in the pocket is a bit to heavy for me...

I work in a medical office where one co-worker carries a Gerber MP600 in his pocket. Slacks, tie, nice shirt, and a multi-tool. I have never seen anyone else do that.

Let's see...I have a Leatherman Wave(w/clip) that I carry at times but, not very often. Too heavy. I have a SOG ParaTool for the tank bag of my motorcycle. There's a Gerber MP600 in my bug out gear, another for in the Jeep, and one needs to be placed in my CERT bag.

As to what I carry, my normal EDC includes keys, iPhone, pen, wallet, and knife. If I am out and about, I may carry a Gerber MP400 horizontally on my belt. Just depends on what my plans are for the day and how I'm dressed. The MP400 offers a smaller, lighter body but, uses the same tools as the 600 series. A small flashlight goes in the pocket of my jacket.

FWIW, Most of my Gerbers have been modified so I have a slightly different tool load than Gerber offers.

Tell us, what do you have against something on your belt?

Other than a belt pouch - which I prefer irrespective of what Sheeple may think or surmise, Horsewright nailed it. Needless to say, his leather arrangement is classy and durable but a pouch of ballistic nylon with a grommet and some paracord would also suffice - but wouldn't be as nice as leather.

Thanks guys. The secret to carrying one on the belt and not having it be a brick is two fold. Good belt and good sheath. A pancake style sheath spreads the weight and the bulk from brick to am I wearing it?

Sometimes he carries it on his left side like above sometimes on his right but he always carries it.

This is our friend helping us on the ranch. I make quite a few of these sheaths, they're pretty popular.
