just wondering if it makes a good choice as an everyday/utility carry.

if you carry one please tell me what you use it for. and, even if you dont carry one, but, have an opinion on them, i would like to hear it.

the more i look at them the sexier (Tom Andersons 'Shrike' makes me drool on my keyboard) they seem to get.

thanks for any thoughts

regards,
bill o.

Used to have a CRKT fixed blade PECK. Great little tool. Kind of cute too. I want to get another one. For heavy duty cutting chores, I don't think the blade shape works as well because the edge has absolutely no curve in it. For lighter chores though, it works fine.

havent seen you around much lately.

anyhoo- yeah,i have a crkt mirage wharny that i carry every once in a while.
i like the blade shape,i dont know what, but something about it appeals to me.

i used to carry a wharncliff whittler (large wharncliff blade on one end and two smaller pen and copying blades on the other end)...the small blades worked well for very fine detail and the wharncliff blade did everything i asked it to do...however its not a great skinner or gutting blade but will do daily utility chores with ease...it was also easy to sharpen as the edge has no curves or belly to it....unfortunately i lost the damn thing and have been hoping that someone would put out a good wharncliff (like chris reeve hint hint) with a frame lock....feverdoc

The first custom knife I had made was a Wharncliff, made by Art Washburn with a Devin Thomas SS raindrop pattern damascus blade and stag scales, (I'd show you a pic but PhotoPoint is down). It's one of my EDC knives and great for everyday things; mail, packages, food, etc. I particularly like it for cutting out magazine articles or pics. I thought long and hard on what would be the most practical blade shape for me and the wharny has worked out great.

Fishn,

I have three and really like them. As feverdoc says they are not a 'hunting knife', but they handle other chores very well.

I have a fixed blade belt knife in BG-42, a neck knife in 1095 and a folder in VG-10. The belt knife sees the most use, when I'm camping I use it for everything.

A custom folding wharncliffe is also in my future, it's on order and should arrive sometime before Xmas I hope. :)

It's my favorite blade shape! Try it, you'll like it!

Here's a pretty nice knife that I may add to my collection - Lynn Griffiths 'Sniper'

Mo, I've been sitting in the background for a little while. Sometimes I say something, but usually I'm pretty quiet now. :) I'll try talking more. I'm still practicing knifemaking. You have any luck crafting something cool?

I've got a TbarK scale release with a warncliffe blade and it's one of the handiest blades I've got. Very good for basic utility cutting.

I have a William Henry Evolution in the Wharnecliffe blade pattern.
IMO, there is no better blade shape for precision cutting or slicing.
It's not really a "do-all" blade design.
Your not gonna skin a deer with one easily, but as a utility cutter it is very usable.

My Kershaw Doublecross has a very usable Wharncliffe blade, and Case now has a Mini Copperhead with a Wharnie main blade.I also have a CRKT Mirage Grey Ghost, and a William Henry Evolution,a Klotzli Walker and my favorite is the CRKT Viele Wasp (large, plain blade). For everyday use,(piece of string, open box, clip out article, open letter, etc.) the Wharncliffe is unrivalled, IMHO.

I have a CRKT Mirage with a wharncliff blade, it is the perfect utility design in my opinion. It is not a skinner or tactical, but meets my on the job needs perfectly.

I've got the William Henry Evolution Wharncliffe and the CRKT Mirage Wharncliffe.

I've found the Evolution an excellent everyday carry. Since it is made of VG-10 it is also a wickedly sharp knife (resharpens easily). I would highly recommend this one. You can pick one up for about $115. Try Knifecenter.

I really like Wharncliffes. As a general use utility knife they're hard to beat. Try one, you'll like it too.

I have a couple of the CRKT Mirage Wharncliff blades. They live in my kitchen apron pockets as a great folding paring knife.

I've carried them as daily carry off and on. I would like that blade shape with an axis lock, say a BM 705w, as I prefer a better lock than the liner lock in my main carry.

I carry a CRKT Mirage as my EDC as well, along with a 1095 neck knife out of my last batch. I think just about anything can be accomplished between a wharncliff and a drop point, and I don't think any point penetrates as well as the wharncliff design.

I also carry the WH Evolution S07 and think it's great for almost everything I would dare do in my office. It's also been great for most of my weekend stuff as well. Scalpel sharp and very light.

I think the wharncliffe is an exxcellent daily utility design. It is easy to sharpen and it has a nice point for penetration. I suspect that the wharncliffe is probably a good knife for tactical matters because of it keen point, however, i have no personal training in that area.

We hardly ever have to skin a member of the Chorus anymore, so a warncliffe works just fine around the Opera House ;)
