Anyone carry and use a "collectible" knife in the woods?

yes, the now discontinued orange g10 spyderco mililitary and the limited edition beckerhead-only bk-10 are both users. if i had a ray mears woodlore i'd use that one too! i think my time on this earth is far more valuable than any piece of steel so i'll maximize the enjoyment my way :)

I use all my knives... it's just that I have too many to make sure they all get time off the bench. This Woodlore would probably be the most challenging to replace:

i used a spyderco starmate for over 10 years before i found out it was collectable. i was at a gunshow and some guy behind a table that was selling nice knives, not the average gunshow stuff noticed the clip. he was amazed that i had been using it as a knife, and not just a display piece. a well made knife is just that, a well made knife. they were made to be used.

Beautiful Woodlore. If guys can use those, I guess I can use anything! I agree that part of the beauty in owning a particular knife is in using it. I have sold knives in the past that I had been using and they suddenly became collectable. But there's a few I wish I would have just kept on using and enjoying. Here is the knife I was speaking of, it arrived today and I love it. Chris Reeve Shadow 4, Chris stopped his one piece line a couple years ago so no more of these will be made. I know hollow handled knives are not the "cool" knives they once were, but this was one of my all time favorite woods knives, and I plan on getting this one dirty and scuffed and loving every minute of it :D

I used a Randall stag handled model 25-5 Trapper as my hunting knife for quite a few years.

Filipino Jest Bolo( i so love this thing)

I recently got a BlackJack 14 to use, its not necessarily a custom, but its off the beaten path.

Sort of. I have a copy of Marble's Fieldcraft knife made by Buck for Cabela's. It was a specially made thing, and they don't make them any more. Don't know how many were made, but they're rare.

I use the great majority of my knives that I keep for any length of time; some I use more than others though. Generally I try to buy them used when I can, since I'm going to use them anyway! A recent exception; my Fiddleback KE bushie which I bought new, and yes I have been using it; a LOT actually! Basically if I like a knife enough to buy it, it is usually because it looks useful to me and I am going to use it. With a few exceptions it's collectability is secondary to me, even if it is technically a "collectable".

I have collectable Schatt & Morgan slipjoints that are in my belt pouch
And get used well in the field and woods
Too nice not to use!

I very often am carrying my Gerber Yari(original). Plain Edge.
I don't see them for sale too often and have another in the safe NIB.
It's a very nice knife for outdoors.

I buy to use, so that in using my knives I can translate what I have learned into my own designs. I picked up an Elishewitz Kaiser (I believe that is the model name) here in Damasteel, with G10/micarta/carbon fiber handle that has been one of my favorite users for bushcraft purposes, and it's list price is very much at the top of my collection. I like to get what I termed as "blue collar gold class" knives- those that look good and work hard. I have a new folder from Alan Davis that I can't wait to get in the bush to try out, not a traditional woods design but one I'm wanting to test out, and it is equipped with Damascus blade and amboyna burl handle scales. I don't foresee me ever selling my knives as I've watched too many sell their belongings to make ends meet and have regretted it forever, so I see no reason for me to not use more collectible knives if the desire takes me. Besides, me using my knives drives up the value for collectors that flip for profit due to increased scarcity, so users and collectors both win!
