Anyone carry INFI in leather on a regular basis?

Each works well for me .... kydex more for sheaths where the knife is exposed to the elements and not worn under waterproofs .... but if storing knives in leather and they are tool steel .... I usually rub Vaseline or I think you guys call it Petroleum Jelly over the blade to protect it from a damp air pocket .... 01 tool steel on my Bushcrafter knives has had a few marks otherwise .... Infi is pretty much like stainless steel when it comes to not being marked .... unless you have a de-carb competition finish .... in which case I use the Vaseline ... handy stuff as it is none toxic and can be rubbed off on "tinder" for a fire as it burns well ....

Never thought about using Vaseline for a fire starter.

Works awesome. Melt some down, dip some cottonballs in, and you've got great tinder that can also be used for some minor first aid (like badly chapped lips).

Vasaline on cotton balls really works great with a ferro rod. Just a spark, and poof fire.

I have had no problems with storing my naked infi in my leather sheaths. No staining yet.

My smaller knives (GWs, ADs, Culti) are in leather; my larger knives (SAR-4, SAR-8, and FBM LE) are in kydex.
But I'm thinking of covering a kydex sheath in leather. Anyone have any experience doing this?

I also wonder about covering a kydex sheath in old flightsuit cloth such as NOMEX or even hide/fur.

I know there is a guy out there that makes some really good kydex-lined leather, but I can't seem to find a link. :foot:

I store my HG in it's leather sheath, no issues yet. And I got a A2 chris reeve shadow that I've had for 16 years, stored in the leather sheath the whole time, also no issues or staining.

and yeah Martin Swinkels makes some awesome sheaths, waiting for a bushcraft moodex pocket sheath for my HC and a form fitted moodex for my BWM.

You're probably thinking of Martin Swinkels. His moodex sheaths are awesome

Bingo! Thanks, I had a wrench stuck in the gears. ;)

I really like his sheaths too!

But he's in the Netherlands... has anybody in the US ever ordered one from him?

Not really sure what Busse knives he has to use as a template, and send a blade over there could end up costing a fair bit of $$$.

.

I am in the process of my SHSJ to him this week. It is very straight forward, he walks you through the process so customs doesn't give any trouble. He tells you what to write on the box, he even tells you how to send it without paying taxes on shipping it over there. If he doesn't have the knife, he will need it to mold the sheath to it, but he does have a lot of blades on hand, so you probably won't need to send yours. He is a real nice guy, and obviously amazing work.

Love the cow. Have some blades in there for YEARS at this point. No staining. . . altho no satin or DC (do I even OWN A DC blade??) stored in leather.

Most of my busses are stored in the factory cardboard "sheath." I've got an "OJ" gamewarden that is stored in an armorall leather sheath that has not developed any staining. I also have a camp knife in O1 steel that until recently was minty fresh after more than 2 years stored in a leather sheath in my gun safe. No staining at all. O1 is supposed to stain if you think about it too hard. It's got a nice patina after doing kitchen duty over the Christmas holiday, but no additional staining from the sheath. I would not (and do not) have any fear of storing INFI- which is much more stain resistant than O1-in leather.

I usually carry in leather, store in kydex
No rust problems. infi is good with corrosion

agree totally with op, have been collecting knives for a while now and i do not store them in leather, because the acids in the leather can cause issues, use wax paper and a thin coat of light oil, preferably mineral oil on the blades and wax on the scales

Nope.

But I make sure both knife and leather are quite dry. And ... truth be told ... I do not store my INFI in leather.

I've had one instance where the black leather dye from inside the sheath stained the micarta slabs on my green linen BAD; fortunately, thanks to some good advice posted here from Leatherman and some other of you kind Hogs, I was able to restore the slabs to their original appearance with some alcohol and some hot soap and water.
Thanks again!
