Anyone Carry One Of These?

Whenever anyone says "folding hunter" most of us automatically think of the Buck 110. Old timers called this pattern the folding hunter. From the top there is a Buck 317, Case 6265, Imperial Frontier 4624, and the last is marked Craftsman, which I believe was made by Schrade. Both blades are right around 4" long. Anybody still carry one of these?

The bottom knife in the first pic is the first knife I remember carrying. It was in my pocket every day when I was in school. Try doing that in an L.A. county school today.
I loved that knife and probably still have it somewhere. It's gotta be close to 40 years old now.:eek:Dang, I'm getting old!:(

My Dad had two versions of the Case, I don't know the model numbers. One had a single blade and the other, two.

At the bottom, that is a Delrin scaled Schrade/Old Timer, that was my first large folder that my Dad bought for me and that I lost. :( Definite bummer on that one. Mine was an Old Timer. They came in the two versions as well with different model numbers, one or two blades and had a small feeble attempt at a type of non-Walker liner lock, a brass tab that protruded slightly into the blade channel on the main blade.

I have that exact same Imperial. It is laying right in front of my key board. It is a very solid old knife. I can't recall when I got it but it's at least 15 years old. I gotta make a sheath for it, to heavy for the pocket except in my hunting vest.

i don't carry one of those, they always seemed like too much knife to bother carrying a folder...i have some fixed blades that are smaller than that...and far lighter!

but they are cool knives, and i do carry a GEC pioneer trapper which isn't too much smaller than one of those...

they just don't really tickle my fancy.

Hi John I have one that looks just like the top one. Mine has two blades and I used to carry that every day. I now just carry for a pocket knife a little swiss army classic and that is just for the sissors.

Sometimes. I carry mine in a sheath that clips on to my belt or whatever. It seems like a big knife to carry, but I don't find it at all awkward to use.

Folding hunters are on my short list of favorites. Some days they are just more convenient than a FB. I also like having two blade options in one knife when I can. The weight just doesn't bother me like some folks. I did carry a Schrade 125OT for a while as my edc, but stopped because it was uncomfortably close to my state's legal limit. On the trail though, it's a different story.

I have the Buck 317 (top knife). Must be about 40 years old. Liking it more and more even though I don't know much about them.

Thanks to your son Jim, that knife is now with me. I guarantee it will be well taken care of.

Edit to add: I had to bump this to say thank you to someone I really miss around here.

Nice knife, with a lot of sentimental value.

I love the folding hunter pattern. This is one of my latest.

I have a Case 6265 and I am very fond of it as it was a gift from my wife. I haven't carried it in along time. Not sure why. It's alot more knife than I need day to day but I like the pattern and have no doubt it would be useful to someone who spends alot of time in the outdoors.

My favorite was one that my grandfather used to let me borrow. Then I let another Scout borrow it on a camping trip(first and last time that happened!), and he lost it.
Luckily my grandfather had another that was similar. I have it now:

Same model as the much prettier one that Blue Sky posted four years ago.
The one that was lost had a larger and less rounded butt, but I think it was also a Boker.

OwenM, that little guy looks like it's been around the block a few times. I love seeing blades like that.

For years in college, my EDC was the Shrade single blade version, until it vanished from my house while a teenage relative with "sticky fingers" was there. I left it on the front of our china cabinet, went downstairs, he left while I was downstairs, and when I came back upstairs 5 minutes later it was gone.

Never got him to admit he took it and never got it back. :(
