I enjoy carrying my fixed blade knives. I have been considering makeing one an EDC. What is the largest blade you guys carry? I will stay within the legal limmits of the law. I have been carrying a kinves of Alaska- cub bear. Blade is roughly 3 inches? I am not trying to intimidate anyone. I just enjoy carrying my fixed blades. In Texas it is legal to carry a knife with a blade no more than 5 1/2 inches. I respect you guys opinions and wisdom. What do you guys carry and how big is too big ?

Too big depends on area and use. I carry 4" folders, and find 4" to work well for me. I normally carry a 4" fixed on me, just to avoid the lock if I have to do harder work.

Five inch Bill Buxton custom. Cuts great, looks great. And the only looks I get are those of admiration. At least that's what I tell myself. ;)

A big knife is nice to carry in the Mojave Desert or the Angeles National Forest.

I live in the Mojave Desert! I guess I should carry my Battle Rat every day! :D

j/k :p

I've carried a CRK Green Beret and a Buck/Strider Solution before, but my new fixed blade EDC is my Trace Rinaldi Enigma! :D

I carry my Damascus Scott Cook Owyhee hunter on weekends quite often, its a small one (3" blade) and looks more like a work of art than a threatening tactical knife, so I rarely get any comments other than of admiration. I think its a perfect size for my casual attire edc. But I am not out hiking in the woods or desert either, if I was, I would take a little larger knife with me.

I like to carry a Straight Handled Steel Heart from Busse combat.
It has a 7.5 inch blade and I can hardly even tell it's on the belt. I carry this knife when I'm in a forested area. Otherwise I'll pack in a Battle Mistress or a satin Jack.

I find a 4 to 5 inch blade works best for me. I carry one that is not a sharpend prybar either. I want it to disappear on my belt when not in use so, a heavy or overly large knife does not work for me.

I also find that I rarely need something over 5 inches in normal use. I'm not a solider in some foreign land living out a Rambo fantasy nor, am I in the Amazon jungle trying to survive on nothing but my skills and a large knife.

A Trace Rinaldi TUK and TTKK have both served me very well and are a classic example of what I use in the real world.

The biggest neck knife I will carry is a Murray Carter Muteki camp knife which has a 4" blade. This is as close as I come to a big EDC fixed blade.

Quite often I will carry a sheathed belt knife horizontal and under my shirt and these would be an Allen Blade MEUK or Dozier Small Elk Hunter. Both have just over a 4" blade as well but the heavier Micarta handles rule them out as neck knives or that's where they'd be :)

The rest of my fixed blades are smaller neck knives or "pocket" fixed blades around 5.5" in OAL. The real dinky ones are mostly good for peeling an apple or opening a can of Copenhagen. I like a bigger blade for daily use.

I'm really a big fan of fixed blades but they are not really practical in NE Ohio for EDC. I mainly carry them at home working in the yard/house/shop or when doing outdoor type activities.

I'll carry an 8" blade from time to time, strictly for sh1ts and giggles. It's a nice knife, and I hate to leave it at home all the time.

Otherwise I carry three fixed blades: one with a 4" blade, one with a 3" blade, and one with ~1.5" blade.

is a BK 9 big :D i have been dragging it around with me for the past week since i got it, great knife.

The biggest knive I carry(sometimes) is my Bagwell Gambler Bowie. Then it drops down to my CS Kobun,Gryphon M-10 or Kasper Companion. My Gerber Yari is on the way and I can't wait to get it.

Dude's question was about folding knives...

Biggest folding knife I've carried is a Large Classic Inlaid Sebenza. Never worried about it.

Friends I've had in Texas have rarely ever had problems.

Just keep this in mind:

If it looks scary to sheeple, or if you're dumb enough to whip it out in front of an officer, then it doesn't matter how big or small it is.

Everything else is ok.

Make sense?

I have started making my sheaths for smaller blades (3 to 4 inches) with a boot clip instead of a belt loop. This works well on belts, boots or, in my case, for a pocket carry. It also works well with the side tool pocket on bib overalls, for anyone that wears them to work or in the woods-even for dress up for some people.
The clip isn't much more noticable than the ones on large folders and you get the advantage of a fixed blade.

A Randall Gilbreath Framelock.
Blade is just over four inches.
A working knife that is so light it
disappears in my pocket.
Sad part is,on a whim I put it on eBay.
Now I have regrets.

The biggest knife I carry from time to time is my Mad Dog Panther. It has a whopping 10" blade, but you can carry it completely concealed when using the Dundee rig.

Hi all long time no see. Miss me? Remember me? lol. Well, the largest fixed blade I carry is a cheap Ka-Bar Tanto knock off. I carry it while airsofting for snakes and coyotes. But since I live in CA I can't carry a fixed blade conceled, and I don't want to bother carrying it in the open, to much hassle."He's got a knife!" or in a whisper "Look that guys has a big knife, he must be some psycho." I'm 17, I don't need that in my life now. So the biggest thing I carry is a Cold Steel Recon 1 Tanto plain edge. Looks simple and non-threatening. But I can do some serious damge if I should even need to. Though I pray I never need to, as should anyone who carries for protection.

I'm glad I came back to this place, good people and good conversation.

i would love to be able to carry a fixed blade but i cant in this stupid country! I just got a TOPS nite chaser which is really cool but unfortunately I cant leave the hosue with it unless its packed in luggage otherwise i would go straight to jail if i were caught! you guys who live in Texas/ Arizona dont know how lucky you are!

Biggest fixed blade I carried is a Camillus or a Gurkha kukri for camping heavy chores.
In city I'm far more comfortable with small folders :)
