Has anyone checked out the Benchmade model 5W Rescue Hook yet? What are you opinions?

I've always wanted a Benchmade bottle opener. ;)

Haven't got one yet but plan on getting a few as gifts for some EMS friends.

Looks like the next gadget to find it's way onto my keys. Never can have too many cool things (or bottle openers).

at a local sporting goods store. didnt notice that it is a BM.
pretty cool, might have to get one sometime.
anyone know the MSRP?

I've seen them advertised from $19.00 - $25.00. . .

In fact, 1SKS has them on the block for $19.99 .

I picked one up about 2 weeks ago. Very cool little toy. VERY sparp! Should cut seat belts easy!

I picked one up a few weeks ago and love it. It is compact, expendable, and alot more reliable than the average $5.00 seatbelt cutter. I used mine within a few days after getting it during an EMT 1 practical testing for cutting tape near my patients face (supine spinal station) and it held a heck of an edge all day with no problems. Also, thanks to it's not having an open edge the victim at our testing station felt pretty comfortable with it being used. (Remember, I was cutting right next to her face, and once right between her eyes when a candidate taped her eyebrows:rolleyes: )
I'd also cut quite a bit of denim, and clothing just messing around with it before then as well, and it was a pretty efficient cutter.

A couple of days after recieving mine I noticed that an O2 wrench could easily be incorporated into the design, and launched an email over to Benchmade to tell them my idea. I really did not expect anything to come of it. I was pleasanty surprised a couple days later I got a phonecall from Travis and was thrilled to learn that they were actually considering my idea, and it sounded like there was a good chance of it being implemented. I'd always been able to pretty much take or leave Benchmade before then, but the callback from them made a heck of an impression on me. They were actually quite interested in what I had to say and I'm rather impressed that they would be that willing to listen to an "Average Joe EMT" such as myself. BM is now among my top three favorite knife companies.

I can't come up with a better working combo than my Rescue hook and my CQD MK2.

And on top of all that, the bottle opener worked great on New Year's Eve....though I found it slightly less effective after the sixth beer....minor design flaw I guess....
:D

I must have one. In case I can't get to the knives in my pockets or the leatherman micra (also on my keychain :) ) to cut the seatbelt.

Aside from emergency applications, I can name at least a few utility applications that this would come in handy.

Indeed. It could function as a "sheeple-friendly" blade when you just need to open a letter or cut some tape, etc.

Not only can you use it as a beer bottle opener... you can use the cutter to neatly open the bag of corn chips.

Goes to show, there is no problem you can't solve with the proper knife.

:D

Hey!! Open beer bottles and have a BM at the same time?? Does it get any better? I gotta get one.

You know, THAT is really funny. No, not the design, or the look. But, the fact that I was on a site today called www.benchmadecollector.net where they had scanned in a few old Benchmade catalogs. One of them actually said '...we don't include bells and whistles like bottle openers on our blades, because our blades are made to cut...'. That is hysterical! :D

LOL! How times change , eh? :D

I just received my Benchmade 5W. Impressive, and extremely sharp. I tested in on an old wash rag as well as a few plastic bags and the 5W zipped through them cleanly. It comes with a small nylon sheath, but you can attach it to your keys or wear it around your neck as well. I haven't used the bottle opener yet, but at least I have an excuse to buy some bottles of beer tonight. :D

Mine is coming tomorrow from 1sks.com. Very excited! This will be a good knife to carry at the hospital.
Thanks,
Matt
