Used the mousepad and sand paper technique and convexed the edge of my brand new pioneer.

started at 220 grit, then 320 grit, then to 800, then 1000, finished on 2000, then stropped on green compound leather to a nice polish.

Turned the "ok" out of box edge to an extremely sharp edge that I believe I will be able to maintain mainly on my strop or no higher than a mild 2000 grit touch up if bad.

got some nice scratch patterns on the sides of the blade to, by accident but I don't mind the character.

Anyone else did this with their SAKs?

Im almost forced to use the sandpaper and mousepad method on my small SAK ( i dont remeber the name..) since its almost too small to use properly with my clamp system. i usually finish on 1000 and use the cardboard strop thing (dont have a leather one... yet!). It works really great ( and its cheap!) and i was able to put a shaving edge along the whole edge while my clamp system couldnt sharpen the area near the tip. but for some reason this method works better on some knives than on others, or maybe its just me.
