Anyone else a Leek fan?

Oh, heck yeah, I am with you! The Leek is one of my all-time favorites, and probably my most carried and used knife. It may not be perfect, but it just has so many positive attributes going for it. You sum it up very well:
there's something to be said for such a sleek, smooth, slim, easy to carry, easy to bring into action assisted opener. Takes almost no effort to flip'er open, and the design is so slick and simple.
I love how fast it deploys, and how slim it is. You forget you're carrying it, until you need it. And mine was shaving sharp out of the box, and held the edge better than I could have hoped for.

As an extra bonus, it is one of the most 'public-use' friendly knives as well, thanks to the rainbow coating. I get nothing but interest and compliments when I whip it out. Girls especially think its cool!

I have purchased many many similar folders for edc. All of them are well designed, high quality knives, but I find myself always returning to my Leek. To date, I have not found any other blade that better suits my edc needs.

All hail Ken Onion for this little masterpiece of craftsmanship!

I thought my plain ol' 1660 was so simple yet special I gave it to a good friend who moved away to Germany a few months ago. One can never be too careful with Eurotrash. Thought I could easily replace it with another, maybe a Leek with a few more bells and whistles, but then the only viable Canadian retailer of Kershaw knives dropped the brand. And I haven't seen too many Leeks popping up on the exchange... what's that tell you? If any good samaritans want to step up, I'm hot for the Random Leek or S30V Random Leek... serrations and all!

For all of you Leek fans, here's a list of the sprint/short runs of Leeks from the old Kershaw sub-forum:

Is there anywhere in particular where all those cool sounding sprint run Leeks can be seen and ordered? Or best to just look at the various retailers and see what they happen to have?

I've got a stainless steel Leek which I like... it's a wonderful design and enjoyable to handle for sure. But with it's compact, sleek form, 3 oz. feels just a wee bit weighty to me. In the role of gentleman's folder, I would prefer a lighter weight Leek version, myself... like the G10 handle offering.

My one and only Leek is a factory 2nd, D2 composite and I'm quite pleased with it. Handle is a little slick but for light cutting and especially opeing envelopes it's like a lazer beam.

It's not my cuppa, I don't like the design. It sells, people like it.

I ordered a D2 composite blem to give to my son (should be here today).

I know that as soon as I see it, I'll have to order one for myself.

I also like the design and have a few (G10 s30v plain edge, SS CE, rainbow PE). That said, find my Chive much more useful - it is usually more than enough knife. It is also a lot more sheeple friendly - the AO on such a small knife doesn't seem to scare anybody.

At the risk of deal spotting or something, you can probably get the S30V random leek from S&R knives, the same place I got my plain-jane 1660. If they don't have it and it's in production, they can order it for you. They're right up there with W&W when it comes to Canadian retailers, imho. Mods, if this violates the rules in any way, please let me know and I'll cease and desist.

I just got a Leek last week...its a sweet nice..i just got the standard satin, with sanvik steel..i love it slim profile, but its more of a in door knife..the tip looks like it could easily snap off...i perfer the shallot or a grop drop/spear point blade...but still a dam good knife

If they had one with some grip like some zytel or g10 and doesnt cost too much...then I think i would really fall in love with the leek.

I have a few in my EDC rotation... here's a sampling. Some were "fixer-upers". Great knife!!

Leek City! Whew hoo! :) (Mine would be the top left). These knives have one heck of a sharp tip, don't they!

Many of those have been sold out for years. You might find some on the Exchange here or on the auction web-sites. I'm not sure which are still available, but checking the various on-line retailers or with kershawguy would be a good start.

Thinking of a Leek, and if I am going to use it for general purposes, is it going to hold up or am I better off with say a Spyderco Tenacious? This will be a first knife and I found a Nascar one cheap, but I dont want to underbuy either. I want something light and a 3" blade or shorter is great. Held a SS Leek in Bass Pro and a Mini Griptilan, and preferred the Grip but at $55, it was more than twice what I could pay for the Leek, and heck, I could buy a Leek and a Persistence cheaper than a Mini Grip and have two knives. I dont know about blades, thinness, or steel, so any comparison or comments would help

If you intend to use and abuse your knife, I'd say the Tenacious would be a better 'beater', hands down. They're pretty different designs, so I'd say it's a question of what you're looking to do with your knife.

My $0.02: I used my Tenacious as my work knife for a couple months and it held up quite well, although it needed sharpening just about every single day because the steel was pretty bad (imho). The leek, by comparison, has much better steel, but has a thinner, pointier blade that definitely won't stand up to much prying and other abuse. The leek could certainly open boxes, cut tape, and do most general EDC tasks, but I'd consider it more of a gentleman's knife or an everyday use knife, not a workhorse or hard use knife.

I'll put it this way: I've owned both the Leek and the Tenacious and used them both. I still own and carry the Leek, but got rid of the Tenacious after a matter of months.

Dorito: Here are my intended uses - cut wires when doing lamp work, or wires that hold up staked bushes in the yard, cut twines and string, not really gonna pry with it, ill use a screw driver, cut open boxes, some letters, maybe cut limes in the kitchen, open packages from Walmart that have that sealed plastic (it is hell with scissors). The drawback for the Leek I am looking at is stainless handles. I am just afraid it will slip. I want something about as light as the Mini Griptilan I held yesterday, but maybe the blade can be bigger. I am wanting to stay under $35 hopefully. I dont have a sharpening system so some blade that can hold a sharp edge longer is defiinitely desired. I mentioned the Tenacious as everyone says it is a great bang for the buck and whatever this means, has a full flat grind. Delicas and Enduras are going to be over $40. I could try a Scallion I guess and at $45, Kershaw guy has a blem Junk Yard Dog.

I will not carry the knife to work, in fact, Ill have either a second knife or keep the cheapy $5 Chinese one I have here, but may carry it on the weekends when I go to ballgames, or run around town and keep it in the kitchen where I can get to it. I just feel that the textured handles (G-10 and FNN? I believe) might be better somehow?
