Anyone else been completely spoiled by the Axis lock?

I go with the axis lock, sorry but its been abuse big time & never fail me. Gary

Agreed with the OP.

Im very addicted to the ease of use, and stability of the Axis Lock.

I think it makes my other frame and liner locks seem like a pain in the ass.

I learned to use a folder when I got a slipjoint as a kid .
Locks are nice , the fancier the lock , when the knife has being having dirt time , the nastier they are to make good again in my limited experience . I have an axis lock , its OK , I dont know how it is better or worse than any of the others I have .. locks are only really *needed* folk who cant use slip joints or afford fixed blades :) My opinion .

Had one over ten years, love the opening & closing with one hand. The only downside if one spring brakes it'll still work but you have to send it to BM for repair, BM has an excellent service. Same as Spyderco. Gary

Right now Im carrying a BM ritter grip & UKPK SP. Gary

The axis is great in my opinion. also the UKPK. GC

The axis is an excellent design & Spyderco with the hole is also. Gary

Over ten years with the axis , is great.GC

I go with the axis lock, sorry but its been abuse big time & never fail me. Gary

Call me crazy, but I am getting the distinct impression that Gary likes the Axis lock. :p

Axis would be at least 3rd down on my list of lock favorites. Maybe not even that high.

It's just another locking mechanism with a set of advantages and disadvantages and not an end all be all. I think if anything Benchmade's overdependency on the Axis lock limits them innovation-wise.

Well said, including the point about BM resting on its laurels.

I recently bought a couple Benchmades after collecting mostly Spyderco folders for years.
The Axis Lock really is superior in terms of smoothness and ease of operation. My 941 and 586 (de-assisted) are both so smooth and flip open and closed faster than my Spydercos. So yeah Benchmade hasn't innovated much with locks but maybe they don't need to because they already have the best.

Sorry about going on & on, but being a lefty it works well & never failed me, just love the way it opens & closes with ease. Won't say no more.:)Thanks, Gary

Love the axis lock, I'll admit at first I was skeptical, VERY skeptical. I remember thinking "who do these guys think they are? Trying to reinvent the wheel..." and then I got one and it was like getting bit by a truck, BAM! They did it, they really did reinvent the wheel with this one. I guess I'm just "another" "lucky" one, been using them for years with zero issues.

I'm much more of a knife user than a knife collector and most of my folding locking knives are Benchmades with the AXIS lock. I trust it more than any other lock based entirely on my own findings in use. I am left-handed and the true ambidextrous quality is a big plus as well. I've been carrying and using them for over fifteen years and never had an Omega spring break.

The type of lock is very low on my list of priorities when choosing a knife. In fact, many of my favorites have no lock at all.

If you have ever had to open and close a folding knife with one hand, after become accustomed to an axis lock, you would appreciate the design. Is it perfect, no, but as a folding knife - tool - I have only the Balisong style to compare it to. I have used an axis lock knife, the 710 introduction, for years without a single malfunction. For me there is not a better lock system for my style of use and work on the market. As a reply to the original OP, Yes I am spoiled by the axis lock and have some well made knives that sit in the safe because of it. Not perfect but none better in my opinion.

I tried the Axis lock and it's a nice design, just not for me. I prefer backlocks.

Jim
