Anyone else buy more than one of the same exact knife? I find myself buying multiples of knives I really like. One to use and abuse and another to put up in pristene condition. I just bought another Wegner  I need to get another 710. Anyone else do this or am I crazy?

I realize that I could buy another model, but really can't help myself.

I have what seems like quite a few duplicates. The ones I can remember offhand are:

Spydie Starmate, Native, Endura
BM AFCK, Panther, 710
Cold Steel SRK, Master Hunter, Tanto
REKAT Carnivour and soon another Sifu

can't remember anymore right now.

Sure I do :) If I like it and use it then I have to have a replacement ready. Who knows what happens, repair, gave as a gift, broken, lost, then I dont' want to walk w/o fav. blade(s) for donno how long. Gotta have one ready :D

P.S. 710 HSSR is one of them ;)

REKATs:
2 Sifu (both same)
2 Pioneer (I & II, but both same blade-style)
2 Carnivour Cub (both same)
2 Hobbit Fang neck knife (both same)

Others:
2 Camillus Cuda CQB-1 (both same)
2 Buck Nighthawk (both same)
2 Leatherman Micra (both same)

I used to buy duplicates but I figure that if I buy a knife and I want to keep it in the collection, I just won't use it. If I want to use it, I will use it and if it wears out, I will buy another. Duplicatesjust tie up to much money to me. Finally, since I'm focusing on customs now, I just can't afford duplicates.

I have more than one Wegner Jr, and AFCKs (both sizes). I like both of these knives so much that I am looking into having some nicer scales put on a couple of them. An 812 with desert ironwood sounds pretty cool to me.

I think I just mis-answered the poll. I don't really buy duplicates. What I do is buy more than one version of a particular model and use them both. :D

I have a green and a black REKAT Sifu, a green and a black Emerson Commander, a multi-colored and a black Kershaw Boa, and a shell-inlaid and a BladeForums blue Spyderco Native.

Duplicates...of course for blades I like....or triplets for ones I Really like....then o course there's the backup of the backup and then maybe one for a gift or two..maybe another to use cause the first may see heavy use or even get loose...just glad I don't get carried away or obsessive or anything. Luckily I'm not fickle in my tastes...been the 710 for a long while now. Course I've had to try a couple handfuls of other good blades to prove my convictions. :)

Does 3 Emerson SOFCK and 3 Brend Model 2 count as excessive?

Regards,

Ed

heck yes i do - i have 4 BM AFCKs, and several CRKT kaspers to go w/my custom crawford kasper - and have 2 MOD razorbacks that are identical - i guess if i like something, i want a backup, or backups lol

sifu

Dennis, yes, you are nuts. I mean what concievable use could someone have for duplicate knives? You only use one at a time. I'd think you would want something different? They all look the same anyway!.....

My wife's reasoning doesn't work for me either.:) I NEED another Sebenza.

Actually Dennis, I don't think you're nuts. I'm just jelous that I can't even afford ONE of everything I want!

If I really like a knife, I'll buy two or more. Sometimes I want a "user" and a "collector", sometimes I'm afraid a model might be discontinued, sometimes I want two in different locations, and sometimes I want an extra (or more) for gifts. When a relative visits in March and springs a three-month belated holiday gift on you, it is handy to be able to pull out a nice knife and say "thanks, I've also been saving this for you."

I have duplicates of a couple BM 722's and 705's. I want a spare in case they get lost or damaged due to hard use.

I often buy duplicates of the same model, often one in plain edge and one serrated.I am also looking forward to a second Sebenza and Sifu.
