Anyone else carry off body?

Eh.... 6 x .380 versus 13 x .45 . . . thanks but no. My "tiny" carry pistol is a 10 shot .45, but it takes the 14-shot mags, too.

You might as well put a flashing neon sign on it that says GUN GUN GUN.

I dunno -- there are so many people carrying tablets, phablets, cell phones, murses . . . the carry environment now is immensely better than it has even been. I and my friends have carried Colt .45 Commanders and full-sized 1911s since the 1980s and we didn't have any of that stuff to fake people off that we do now.

I even have a holster that has a fake pager that you grabbed and pulled it up, which then allowed you to get your hands on the pistol :-).

That really depends on your geographic location. Downtown Seattle is a freak show, so some middle aged guy carrying a murse doesn't get a second glance. Kinda blend in with the metrosexuals...carrying murses.

Been carrying this way for over a year and none of my friends suspect anything.

Here I am at an outdoor monster truck rally. I had my boy's jacket and mine in the bag this photo. Some snacks too.

Different location (Spokane). Different bag. (Maxpedition Colossus)

As I said, I carry different ways. In 8 years, I have had one person ask if one of my bags had a gun. It was in a gun dealers/gunsmith shop. He asked me if I had a gun to check in to be worked on.

I have, in that time, seen a triple handful of other people's ankle, waist and pocket carried guns visible when a shirt pulled up, or pant leg pulled up, ,or a pocket gaped.

I tend to be more cautious about what and how I carry when it is on body. I have to make conscious choices about what shirt, pants etc will work.

I carry the same Mongo to court with my laptop and files 3 x per week. At least 1x per week it goes into a jail. No gun at the court house, or in the jail. But that same bag draws no attention.

There are lower profile bags. But it is handy. I have used it in major cities like Seattle, Salt Lake etc with no notice or comment. "full" or not.

When i was in high school I worked at a fast food "restaurant" When we closed up we found a really heavy fanny pack. Turned out that an off duty sheriffs officer had left it, and the pistol it contained. He was lucky that we were so honest.
No I don't carry off body. Unless I'm working right next to my truck, then I sometimes leave my pistol in my truck, or if going on a long drive, I'll sometimes take my pistol off my belt and put in in my door pocket.

If I have trouble concealing in traditional carry positions, I ankle carry a sub-compact or pocket carry a pocket pistol. I'd never carry off-body. Kind of defeats the purpose in my opinion.

Plus I like to mentally "check" the weight/feel to make sure nothing happened without me knowing it. I did have a nice Kimber 1911 dump out in a Kmart parking lot one time. It was back when I first started carrying years ago (yeah, a nice, OLD Kimber!) and I had it in one of those crap Uncle Mike's IWB holsters w/ the plastic clip. As I was getting out of my really low to the ground car, the ENTIRE holster/gun combo somehow flipped upside-down and suicided on the asphalt. My heart skipped a couple of beats that day. Thankfully nobody saw it and the damage was minimal.

I never carried a crap holster again after that lesson.

when I carry off body it is a CZ P-07 9mm in a maxpedition fatboy
A compromise, yes. But better than nothing.
It truly is a man purse and doubles as a baby bag

.

I don't like the weight of a pistol on my belt, and there isn't a comfortable carry rig for me; I've got a whole drawer full of holsters to prove I've tried to find one that isn't annoying as hell.

Off-body carry is more acceptable now because so many folks transport laptops and iPads everywhere they go. I usually have a newspaper and a few file folders when I'm out and about, in addition to my iPad.

Depending on where I'm going, I'll often carry a Maxpedition bag or some other over-sholder rig to hold my stuff. Sometimes the handgun is along, sometimes not.

Lots of people consider a shoulder carry bag 'normal' for men in today's urban society. That makes concealed carry a lot easier for me.
