Anyone Else Collect Odd One's?

I've been chasing odd 112's since 2007 when I had to make a decision on a model and a theme to avoid 'Just Bucks I like ' ..It was made very deliberately because I knew even back then that I needed to focus my collecting because I couldn't afford to buy a really high end LE's in fixed blades and frankly my Brother steered me to folders and gave me a 112. At first I looked for NIB with all correct paperwork and shieth's and absolutely nothing but pure 'Factory' 112's but that was over quick because there was many 112's that were aftermarket or Customs that were interesting and way cheaper..I soon sought out special projects, advertising, especially safety award 112's, and by 2009 my theme was just odd. I like to display because it's really fun and is great to learn and network to find new ones. Am I all alone here in chasing the odd ones of a single model? It's a, really exciting way to collect because there's ALWAYS something odd out there to find and many times the cost is reasonable..

I collect 110 Folding Hunters BUT... only those that relate to an anniversary of Buck Knives Inc. or of the Model 110 itself.
AND
I only collect those 110s that were officially produced by the Buck factory as regular production models, Limited Editions or Special Projects [i.e. no Buck Customs or 110s customized by other knife makers (e.g. Remer, Yellowhorse, Prater, etc)].

For example;
  • 25th anniversary of the Model 110,
  • First Production Post Falls,
  • Last Production El Cajon,
  • 50th Anniversary of the 110,
  • 100th Anniversary of Buck Knives, etc.
At first, this theme might seem to be limiting the number of 110s that would fall into this specialty area. But, I already have over 50 different 110 models that fit this theme. If I can find a reliable and free image hosting site, I plan to start a thread that will show the knives in the new wall-mounted custom display case I am currently building.

(The wife finally found a spot in our home where she will allow me to mount the case.) Yay! My 110s can finally come out of hiding!

RevolverGuy that 112 is truly a odd one!! Not only one of the few Nickel silver frame 112's back in the 1990's it was a Walmart exclusive. I've only seen 1 picture of it before, never the knife in hand, but never seen one offered for sale and I have looked lol! It seemed so odd to me that Walmart would have wanted a Nickel frame with a 'Workman' pad print..Many of them were used for Customs and rebladed over the years a original one is very, very rare.

Nope!! I only collect the same exact thing everyone else does, that way my collection isn't rare, unique, or even stands out in the crowd...:confused::confused::cool::p

Just kidding... I collect what appeals to me. That's what makes it so hard to sell when the time comes, I like everything I got....:D:D

Not sure if it was a Walmart exclusive or not. There use to be a knife shop in town and this was purchased from their used section, so I don't know it's history. It's finger grooved and came with the leather sheath.

That sounds like a good plan on a way to collect. I never thought of myself as a collector, but I'm just looking for the perfect knife. I usually buy a knife, and then decide it is too nice to carry and if I use it, I'll ruin the value, so I keep it in the box and move on and buy another knife or buy doubles. I now have 4 wooden ammo boxes packed full of knives in the boxes, mostly Buck and Case but with a good dose of Benchmade and Spyderco's. I don't guess I have any really odd Bucks but I have a redbone 309 that I don't see much of, and a yellow 309 and a few others that are numbered. My favorites are the ones I find in person at flea markets and such and that I didn't pay a high price on, such as a 1969 110 in new condition that I paid $20 for and a 1967 110 that is like new. I guess my oddest in my collection is a Colonel Coon brand Mule Day Celebration knife that was made in TN. ,that is numbered and in a display case that I bought because it was odd, and I lucked out because those things sell for crazy prices pretty quick. I've sold one knife for a profit, and felt bad about selling it and never sold another, so I'm probably not going to ever make any money off the hobby.
I've been thinking about picking a single model, like you.

My Buck collection goes all over the place but the odd ones are my favorites. The ones you never have seen or even knew existed.
