Anyone Else Collect Wall Hangers?

Sure, I use knives. I like INFI, S30V, 1095, and serious users. But I also occasionally buy knives just for their beauty. I recently got a knife that looks like Dundee's. I have two versions of the movie knife used in Iron Mistress. I have long admired the Rambo III Bowie, and have one coming in. I could buy a custom from Gil Hibben for big bucks. But the 420J2 one will do fine for my purposes. I have the Sting short sword from Lord of the Rings. I just like looking at that beautiful leaf shaped blade as it hangs from its display plaque. I know that many folks disparage such "art" knives, but I like some of them. Any other knife lovers out there buy such knives? There is no shame in it. :D

i have couple lord of the ring blades , cool on the wall not to fantastical. strider dagger and ranger sword. i've wanted to get one of the predator bowie machetes for along time, maybe one day.

Thanks for that "confession", disduster. I think some knife lovers are ashamed to admit that some movie may have inspired them to buy a knife. I have no shame. I collect everything from WWII combat knives to Busses to United Cutlery movie knives. :D

I guess you could say that most of my knives are either "wall hangers" or "stand sitters". That's because I live and work in an environment where there isn't a whole lot to cut/chop and carrying knives is frowned upon. But I love cutlery nonetheless. That's why I'm in Vegas right now attending the SHOT Show. :)

Good deal, Bruce. I bet you come back with some pretty steel. :D

I do have plenty of knives hanging on the wall, and some of them don't seem to have much purpose other than to look at, but I still refuse to buy a knife that isn't produced to quality cutlery standards.

90% of the world seems to have other ideals though, so I guess I'm in the minority.

On the topic of swords, really, the assault rifle of the past has no purpose but to be admired now days. I do have a bunch of those as well, but again, they must be functional.
Even though most of mine are blunt, I can't stand having something that isn't built to the same standards (or better) as the originals were hundreds of years ago.

Again, that's just me.

Not at all.

Not that I wouldn't, I mean not oppossed to it or anything. Don't have the space or the money.

I have a prized set of "samuri swords" that my wife got me for a wedding gift 26 years ago. They are not even good for openning letters, but she got them for me and I will keep them forever. They sit on top of a bookcase gathering dust.

Well even my wall hangers are functional. I mean, they may not have the very finest steel, but they can take an edge and cut. I just don't use them as axes or machetes, and I really try to avoid bowie knife fights, but the Iron Mistress ones are very well balanced and lethal.

Actually I wasn't planning on buying anything, Vic. But something came up that was just too good to resist. I'll send you an e-mail this weekend and fill you in.

Whether I use them or not, I also refuse to buy knives that aren't produced to quality cutlery standards. So I suppose I'm in the minority, too.

Something about the Iron Mistress ..... I have always liked this knife, not sure why, maybe the big clip, or the "fragment of a star" that went into it
Anyway I also have a couple of Iron Mistress wall hangers - and I thoroughly enjoy 'em because they are functional and very well made - Joe Yeates , Steve Voorhis and James Downs models
