anyone else eat just once per day?

Yeah, I eat one meal a day.... by that calender, I'm up to April 18th 2153. ;)

I had, was very sick at the time.
Now back to eating 'normally' - which is abit too much. I find if I eat less often, I wind up eating too much. I think more often with smaller portions would work better.

I sorta follow this same type of eating pattern. My problem is I work third shift six nites a week and do not have a set eating or sleeping pattern. I've been living like this for almost 28 years. I used to come home from work and eat a big breakfast then go to bed. Then I noticed I was gaining weight and had indigestion and gas. I stopped eating before I went to bed. To make a long story short, the way I eat now is I'll have dinner right before I go to work and I will eat something while I'm at work on break. On my day off, I get up in the morning and have coffee that's it. I'll eat dinner. I may occasionally snack during the day, but not everyday. This time of year is hard because the cold weather naturally increases your appetite. It hard in the beginning but as you decrease the amount you eat your stomach will shrink and you will feel full quicker, at least that's how it's been for me.

I've been doing the same thing and I seem to gain weight I think it's slowing my metabolisum down. I'm going back to 4 smaller meals a day and no softdrinks.
Peace

Oh boy ... what's the point of one meal then ? I mean, your stomach gets larger (because it has to acomodate larger meal), if you eat stuff with lots of fat and high glycemic index you'll get hungry again soon - this is self-torture if you ask me :)

It isn't though :)

After awhile, your body adjusts to this and your insulin levels are steady and your blood glucose levels are low about 4 hours after you eat and thereafter until the next meal.

I don't yoyo from fullness to hunger anymore. I'm actually not really hungry much during the day, except purely from habit.

I don't know why this works. It just does. Lots of people do it. I think it works because we efficiently metabolize food when we eat infrequently, and we maintain blood glucose levels automatically instead of dependent on the next meal.

One thing: I drink no sodas whatsoever and have a relatively good diet, by my standards, meaning high protein, high fat, moderate carbs (but not low carb by any means). I never eat pasta and don't usually eat bread although I do eat a bit of dessert and I will eat potatoes which have a lot of carbs.

I haven't lost much weight but I think I could if I cut down a bit. I haven't gained fat though, based upon how my clothes fit. It is impossible to gain fat eating this way, for me, no matter how much I eat as long as it is only once per day.

I think there is an adjustment period for this. You may have trouble with it for awhile. Maybe for a few months. I conjecture that his is because your system is accustomed to yoyoing up and down each time you eat. Your system needs to learn to adjust its own blood glucose and insulin levels during fasting. This is not something your system is used to doing if you eat all the time.

Remember this: there are at least three good studies showing this diet leads to healthier and longer life at least with rodents. It is being studied with humans. Many other diets are based around theory and claims. This diet idea is based upon clinical studies.

The studies are striking in that the rodents are much more resistant to toxins and much healthier in every way. The major difference I can see in the studies is that they fast the rodents for one full day, then let them eat as much as they want the next day, then fast them again the third day, and so on. I don't fast for a full day, I eat once per day, so this is different. But I think that similar good results happen.

My friend and I once tried eating 1 meal a day for a few months. To make a long story short, he got sick and I developed an iron deficiency. I felt horrable for weeks. After I started eating normally again, I felt fine.

Now I eat around 5 times a day. I keep the meals/snacks small so I don't get too many calories.
