Anyone else feel guilty having a favorite knife and not carry your other fine knives?

I often carry some of the cheapest knives I own while my Benchmades and Spydies stay home. I like variety and besides some of the "finer" knives out there are little more than sharpened prybars. I like to CUT stuff.

I have the opposite problem. I don't use my favorites because I want to keep them pristine. It's like fearing that first scratch or ding on your new car. I use the cheaper knives that I don't care about as much: Byrds, blems, sogzilla, voyager, etc. I also like to keep my favorites mint in case a good trade pops up. Users are tough to move.

I also favor a very small number despite the much larger collection. I keep telling myself to rotate them all but still stick with my top three. Right now I have a Chris Reeve Mnandi that I just can't seem to get out of my pocket. I have 5 other CRKs but end up using a Spyderco Sage2 much more. I have many traditionals, including a few customs, but end up only using my Case SBJ.

I keep my favorite in one pocket and rotate all the others in my other pocket.

I almost wish I hadn't bought the ones I don't carry. A Sebenza in particular just sits there. I drank the Kool Aid and bought ine--love the art of it, but as a knife, too slippery, too heavy, not useful enough. Maybe I find my art elsewhere? But anyway, I have a Strider SNG which is also just sitting unused, except --the Strider somehow overcomes how un-useful and fat it is--by sheer insane level coolness of design. Never parting with it.

Ever since I got a PM 2, I'm toast.

I just ordered a Calypso Jr. because I love that PM 2 so much.

Anyone want my Seb? Seriously.

no guilt. I have a few "preferred" blades
But every morning, my 4yo daughter insists on picking my knife for the day. See - no guilt.

Good thing she has good taste.

The PM2 is one of my favorite EDC knives also, it's just so useful in any situation.

And on a side note, I'll take that Seb off your hands, it'll get some use with me ;)

I understand your reasons that you listed, but I don't agree. Once you get a bit older, you'll agree that you'd better smell the roses. Winter's comin'.
