anyone else find their "perfect" knife and slow down on the boards?

After careful consideration, input from many fine members of this board, and searching around, I decided that the Spyderco Dragonfly in Nishijin scales and ZDP-189 steel was my perfect daily carry. I received this exact knife for Christmas, and ever since, I've pretty much stopped coming to this site.

I think it is kind of like when I got my BMX bike dialed in w/all the parts I wanted, my activity on the BMX message boards I am a member of really slowed down.

I think that now that I've got what I want, I've stopped looking. Sort of like getting married. Once that happened, I stopped going to where I'd meet women. (still look though!) (at knives, bikes, and women...)

Anyone else in a similar situation?

Maybe a little. But I do find I go to differ ant areas more. Still come to bladeforums but I'm reading more learning type threads.

started happening with me on folders when i got my custom... then i found fixed blades

If it ever happens to me it's only because I wouldn't want to tempt myself with all these sexy blades bouncing around; my wallet is thin enough already.:D

Im the opposite. When I order or receive a new knife (especially when I took a chance with a brand or design I'm not familiar with), I go back and reread all the threads turn up when I do a search. All you guys/gals positive feedback always helps to justify what I spent. :D

I've passed through a lot of phases - blacked out knives, Axis lock knives, full flat ground, super steel, midtechs (even the triumvirate of CRK, Hinderer, Strider) - and have finally settled into knowing what attributes I want in a knife: 3 - 4 inch blade with a steel that prioritizes fine edge retention that doesn't destroy my pocket and is relatively light and easy to carry. At this point I've settled in for the long haul with a left handed Sebenza and Umnumzaan, a ZDP-189 Caly 3.5, left handed Military, Super Blue Stretch, and a CPM-154 SNG that's more of a toy than a something I actually carry.

For sure my folder/EDC collection is likely to be static for quite some time. I can't say the same about my kitchen knives (I'm getting really into Japanese single bevels) and Japanese waterstones.

Seems more like my focus has shifted elsewhere, though to a still related interest.

Not yet, but I really want to. I honestly feel bad for spending so much of my cash on blades, no matter how much I love them.

I'm reasonably certain that I'm not going to find a better knife for my needs than the Spy-DK. So I'm not really searching for the "perfect" knife anymore, but I do want to try out different locks, deployment methods, handle materials, steels, companies, etc.

I did that with firearms and flashlights. I have what I care to have with those. I will never lose my love of shooting, but I don't care to own a lot of firearms-- just what I carry + 1 copy.

Knives are... Different.

It's all about variety for me.There no "end" or slow down.

At the end of this year I should be getting a call or email from Scott Cook telling me my Lochsa is ready.A knife I've been lusting after for the past seven years.Do I think it will slow me down on acquiring the latest greatest knives?Nope, not one bit.

There are a lot of different areas of the board that keepy interest and help me stay involved in the community. When I do get a Grail, it actually increases my participation on the board. I post reviews and pics, as well as start searching for the next Grail.

Lately, I spend a lot of time in GBU trying to extinguish the scammers. Regardless of my knives, it's out reaponsibility to keep each other from being scammed. This forum is great for that.

If I don't post, it's because I have nothing to add to the current threads. Still reading, just not areas I can add to.

I havent posted here in a while. I still have a lot of knives on my list though....its just I don't have the funds (or the guts :p).

Yep, absolutely.

For me its about a perfect tool for my need. So when I find a new need, I hang around more, or if what I've found so far hasn't quite fullfilled the need perfectly/adequately enough, I still will keep looking.

I've still got a few holes in my needs, but they're not pressing. I mostly check in around here to see what's going on, answer questions about stuff I have, etc.

I see it as healthy, normal, etc. Plus, its not like I don't have any other hobbies that have other forums/etc where I can spend tons of time on in the meantime :P.

Very much so.
My Sebenza is perfect. I don't want anything else.
I used to LIVE here, now I just stop in every other day or so.

I pretty much have all of the knives I want or need. I only browse the forums out of habit.

No, not at all. Even though I have the knives that satisfy me, there's always something else that pops up. I thoroughly enjoy coming here and being a part of this community.

Nope, never slow down, I've been going at this for 40+ years, I'll never find the one, I may get close as I have with my Sebenza and now another, thanks to Ajack60. ;) :).

For me the looking and the research are most of the fun...

Absolutely. My most "advanced" steel is probably 14-4 or N690Co, and those are probably better than I absolutely need, but I find reading about al the latest and greatest and the various advances to be fascinating.

Yes, ever since I decided to carry one of the knives I made that hadn't sold...I realised I'd found something close to perfect and I've only bought 2 knives since (in almost a year).

Still visit the forums for inspiration though.
