anyone else find their "perfect" knife and slow down on the boards?

After I've found the perfect knife, I go to Bladeforums to look for the next perfect knife. An evil place this is.

For EDC, once Spyderco released the Paramilitary 2 I have pretty much stopped looking at new production, and I'm gradually selling off a lot of the ones that weren't the one that I have accumulated along the way. Same thing with the Beretta Loveless dropped point for a hunting knife. I actually let my Gold membership lapse for a few months because I just wasn't coming back. Discovering Armslist also might have had something to do with it.

I could still be convinced that I haven't found the perfect small gentleman's knife or the perfect fixed blade for backpacking.

At least I'm not alone in the slow down!

I still come here, but not every day like I used to. I need to slow down or I'll just spend more $$!!!

I experienced this with firearms. Once I got my center fire rifle, I had something in every major category and needed to SHOOT more instead of browsing. Of course I started making knives around the same time, so maybe it was a distraction...

Despite finding that next greatest knife, I'm always on the boards. My next knife is going to take some serious saving, and won't be for nearly a year. I've decided against picking up a ZT0808 when it drops, as well as a CTS-XHP AK-47. Funneling everything to a special custom.

I skipped right to the Sebenza 25 and avoided the constant flipping. Pretty happy with it, I'll need a new hunter for deer season but other than that my Sebenza and mini-grip are working real well for me, with the Sebenza getting edc duties.

Yep. I've found the perfect knife dozens of times. And I've sold many of those perfect knives to fund the purchase of other perfect knives. It is maddening.

After I sold down for the move back to OK, I found I was 100% satisfied with my 0801. That stayed true for a while, but then I got a few other cheap ones for kicks, and... Now I'm back in the buy/sell/trade game, with my 0801 on the sale block as I look for different things.

With new things consistently coming out and the lack of any good knife stores nearby, the exchange is my only cost-effective way to handle and check out knives I'm interested in.

I thought I was good for a bit.
Then I saw the Grohmann Knives #4 Survival Knife.
I figured "It's a survival knife made in Canada...I live in Canada...I probably need to get it if I hope to survive." :D

It should be here around Tuesday.

But then I'm done for good...at least until the following week. ;)

After careful consideration, input from many fine members of this board, and searching around, I decided that the Spyderco Dragonfly in Nishijin scales and ZDP-189 steel was my perfect daily carry. I received this exact knife for Christmas, and ever since, I've pretty much stopped coming to this site.

I think it is kind of like when I got my BMX bike dialed in w/all the parts I wanted, my activity on the BMX message boards I am a member of really slowed down.

I think that now that I've got what I want, I've stopped looking. Sort of like getting married. Once that happened, I stopped going to where I'd meet women. (still look though!) (at knives, bikes, and women...)

Anyone else in a similar situation?
I agree that my perfect edc is also the nishijin dragonfly.

I only wish it cured my knife sickness tho.

Truth be told, MANY times ;) It's so strange. The same thing has happened to me with guns, guitars, fountain pens, straight razors... :D

I haven't had as many knives as some of you folks here but I have gone through various spydies, ZT, Kershaw, benchmade and last Christmas got the one CRK i had my eye on and thought it was going to be the one. The Zaan. Super nice knife but I never bonded with it like I thought I would. On the other hand I think the benchmade 940 is perfect for my needs.

Great blade to handle ratio. Ergonomics, blade shape and thickness. Works well going in and out of the pocket with gloves or no gloves. Love the lock and it rides so well in the pocket. It fits all my needs quite well, it's hard to beat. I still look and admire other knives but at the moment I'm not feeling the need to look elsewhere.
